for some reason, I'm on Facebook daily, and check it several times a day...it's like I might miss something. I've caught up with a lot of my friends from high school

Well I have twice deleted my facebook because sometimes people on it get on my nerves - also from time to time I have issues with it not working for me.  However like others said I stick with it because my deceased husband's family is scattered out and I want to stay in touch with them one way or another and it seems to be facebook.

I'd say that it's probably leveling off more than anything else as it seems like most people already have an account (not like when they first started)... I get on it almost everyday, usually to keep in contact with friends and family. I also have a karaoke business that has a Facebook page to help keep our fans informed of new shows coming up etc. I also think that Facebook seems to be more of a melting-pot of other social media sites; some of my friends will post something they found on Instagram or YouTube. So in that sense I also feel that it helps retain their users as being the general site that people post to from other sites that their friends may not have an account with.

I haven't tried Twitter yet, so I can't really compare the two (Twitter being what I'd consider Facebook's strongest competitor). But I think that if anything that may be the direction that social media is going... When MySpace was popular, it seemed to be more about setting up your own page to be more of a self-profile. Facebook then allowed for easier passing of messages / posts to other people through their newsfeed. And Twitter seems to be the next evolution making the profile less important, placing more emphasis on the posts and grouping them together via hashtags.

You know facebook is so much flippin drama it is unreal.  People are so stupid and need to learn how to let other people have their opinions.  I have a couple of things.

1) I was looking at a site were random people can post and you do not have to sign in or put a name or anything.  This person was local to where I live and crying because they had been unfriended by several people lately.  They took to this "gossip site" to cry because the people had blocked them and they could no longer yell at them on facebook for deleting them.  I am like "Really"???  Grow the heck up and move on!

My second point.  People need to grow up with the unfriending thing.  It amazes me that someone says "I do not want to be your friend because I do not agree with you on any certain topic".  People are so stupid.  Idk.  I do have a fb page and mostly it is to communicate with family that are scattered all over the country.  I only have a handful of friends.  I have had 3 people over the years of having it unfriend me.  All because of something stupid.  I guess I was suppose to care. lol

I will say this - People need to be careful what they put on facebook.  Even sharing one of those statuses that would give away your opinion on something can end up costing people their job.  I have seen it happen.

Here is an example of the one that comes to mind.  It was a status that says "I believe in traditional marriage.  One man.  One woman."  That is all it said.  It was made on a poster like thing and tons of people shared it.  Everyone has the right to believe what they want to and to share said status.  I know someone who shared that status and then was attacked because someone who had a mother that was a lesbian got mad.  It blows my mind.  There was nothing said to any specific person.  A user just shared a status stating what THEY believe.  Anyway, the person who was on the friends list got all offended and complained and caused problems for the person who shared the status.  I just think that is pathetic.  If you are that offended then I say stay at home and don't ever go outside because not everyone is going to agree on everything.

I deactivated my account once. But have since reactivated it.  I had a "friend" use that term loosely cause a lot of problems for me at work because of something very vague and random that I said on facebook.   I do not post personal stuff or pictures of myself.  I do enjoy talking to people that live other places that are family.  I also do not accept friend requests from people I do not know.  It also amazes me that a friend of a friend will send ME a friend request.  I am like YOU don't know ME.  WHY are you sending me this? lol

I don't know that facebook is losing ground.  I think there are plenty of people who are still addicted to the site.  There are people who use it because they like playing the games.  There are people who use it because it a cyber reunion with family and friends.  There are people who use it as a dating site and some use it to pick up business.

I think blogging and developing blogs and personal websites have lost ground because it's easier to drive traffic to a facebook page than it is to a blog outside of facebook.

All in all, I think facebook is popular because it's user friendly for a lot of people.
Have a great day!
