I survived...
« on: April 14, 2014, 04:27:54 am »
I survived my first 5K and I am extremely sore but it was so much fun and worth it! If anyone wants to try it, it's called Run or Dye, google it. It's a color run for helping shelter the homeless. You can go at your own pace as well, a lot of walkers. I want to do another one real soon!!  ;D

Good for you.  That sounds like a worthy cause and great motivation.  I could walk 5 miles, but I couldn't run it.

I will only run if someone is chasing me... thankfully I have not been chase in many years. I assume the charity would take a donation from me if I ran or not... ergo substance over symbolism.

It was only 3.2 miles and I did not dare run the whole way...lol. I slow jogged for 10 min, walked for 20, on and off. I think everyone stopped to walk. It was a lot of fun when you got power dye thrown in your face...lol. I'm still cleaning out pink dye out of my ear. haha! :)

I would not want dye of any kind thrown in my face.

Good for you! I wouldn't want dye thrown in my face and I usually only run if something or someone is after me.

That is so awesome to be able to do that - right now I am barely able to cope physically with going to the Y and trying to do a little on a treadmill and a couple of weight machines due to mobility issues and chronic pain.  I think its awesome both from the standpoint of doing the 5k and helping the homeless.

Good for you, that's great!  If I were younger I would probably try to run, but I have COPD and could never enter a race.

Great you had a lot of fun. The theme on this fund raising does sound interesting. The color theme in particular reminds of other festivities, but of course I think are cultural based. Maybe I might try this myself one day. Based on the sites available there is one at least a couple hours away from my location.

I used to do a few charity run/walks on campus when I was in college.  I always did the walk as my asthma wouldn't allow me to do the run for very long (even with inhaler).  Congrats on the 5K - that's quite an accomplishment!

Congrats!!!That is quite an accomplishment. I try to stay active an keep healthy but I don't think I could ever train enough to do a 5K. You're an inspiration.

Good for you!  I use to run a lot when I was younger.  I have a good friend that is running in the Boston Marathon today.  She was there last year when the bombs went off.
Have a wonderful day!

I am trying to work myself up to walking 1 mile. I have a long way to go. I have to pace myself to get there. I don't want an injury to set me back.

I have never entered at run, but I walk  5 miles every day.  Sometimes when I am short ontime, I will run for short bursts during the walk (Emphasize short!  LOL).
