Noise Pollution
« on: April 15, 2014, 01:36:37 am »
I am constantly bombarded daily with incessantly barking dogs, sirens, horns, and those damn idiots who think they are impressing someone by turning the bass up on their cRAP, HipHop, "music" to the point of disturbing distortion which rattles and shakes my apartment.  People say that's the city for you, but I say it is just immature, inconsiderate, punks that just don't care, but if you woke them up they would want to end your life and challenge you to do something about it by trying to intimidate  you.  Wish there was a device to deflect the reverb and blast the sound waves back their way.  They are breaking the law by doing this all hours of the day but little is done about it.

I agree with you. We have neighbors who think it's fine to turn up their music so loud we can hear it clearly in our home. In order for me to file a complaint I have to have complaints from all my neighbors and they need to be notarized and submitted to the city. That's crap. And forget calling the police. I don't like it when my husband has to go out there and ask the flaming a hole to turn it down. A guy here was recently shot when he asked some punks to turn down their music. It's just not right.

There are noise canceling headphones or earplugs... If you want to get away with it, you could move to a midwest... City type places will always be lout

Too many people nowadays are inconsiderate and only care about themselves and act like they are the only people in the world who matter.  Entitlement.  It's sad to see kids are not taught to respect others anymore...

I agree with texasmom32 with the level of disrespect.  I live in a rural community out in the midwest and there is still noise pollution that wrecks my nerves.  For instance the other day my husband, daughter and I were out working... a beautiful day.  The first for our lawn mowing/landscaping business to take off.  We had a truckload full of equipment and debri and we were driving through construction.  I was letting a lady pull out into traffic from a restaurant and kids behind us starting hollering to get moving.  I'm so arrogant at that point I intentionally drove slower than necessary.  It seems the older I get the more sensitive I become to noise.

With time I tend to filter out a lot of noises, but when I'm concentrating on certain things I do notice them more, such as airplanes and dog barks when I'm watching a rental movie. There are a lot of things that bug me, but as noise pollution I just resign myself and deal with it.

I don't like living next to noisy neighbors. You try to reason with them to no avail.

Well, my upstairs neighbors think they own the whole building and stomp around at all hours of the night, dropping things, slamming things, letting their kids violently throw each other on the floor, etc. I've been up there a couple times to ask them to be a little more considerate, and that didn't do much. So I had to call the police twice. Which also didn't seem to do much. At this point, when they are being overly noisy, I bang the ceiling with a broom. It's ridiculous that I have to live like this. The old people we had up there had carpeting, and when they moved out, the landlord ripped up all the carpeting and just laid down hardwood flooring. So now I guess I have to suffer.  >:(

I live in a small rural town and there is still noise.  I get aggravated at my neighbors dogs when they are barking at 3am.  Not good sleeping noise.

I have had noisy neighbors, and I had to put up with the noise, because there was nothing I could do to make them stop.

not really suburbs & smaller towns you still get a-holes that turn up there volume way to loud its everywhere not just the city. one time a roommate took my radio outside on the porch (with out permission) & blasted it so loud that i could hear it several yards away. its like those people want to blow out there ear drums although i can see loud music @ a party but that sould always be in a isolated place. there is a noise law but what's sad about it is during the day its null invoid and even worse cars that stop @ a gas station having there radio blasting out even @ night. :cat:

I live in NYC so I can't get away from it by just using headphones. My room is facing a main street and I live on a business/residential block . There's two clubs a few doors down and a church in the other direction that holds midnight masses. There's even an army recruitment center and every Saturday morning, the new recruitment run around the block chanting!   : :'(

Sadly there's nothing to do about the noise pollution other than wear ear plugs or maybe move. People won't change. I went to a department store and there was a man inside with a radio. That ridiculous, but, what can we do.

Sadly, that is a part of living in the city. Most people either learn to tune it out somehow or end up moving. Out of all the awful sounds I've had to endure, the worst has been a high-pitched AC unit making this awful noise that was nearly impossible to tune out. That just about drove me crazy.
