The spine IS the central nervous system for everything below your head. Often a problem in the spine will be demonstrated in other areas, hips, knees, elbows, etc. The MRI is important in telling the Doc what is NOT the problem as much as it is in helping find the cause of the problem. I would have the MRI done if I were in your place. Other problems that you may have no symptoms of could be found as well... just my opinion...

a LOT of folks have that reaction, claustrophobic sensations... most facilities have gone to the 'open MRI' type machines that are more like a big donut instead of a big tin can because of patient distress.

Make sure that they are not making a mistake, because the MRi is very expensive....

I've had a couple MRI's and likely have more coming. I don't mind being closed in, I don't get claustrophobic. I usually just close my eyes and relax.

The spine could be causing your problem. If they want to a lumber puncture  make sure biology does it. I had a car accident about 15 years ago. I seen  a chiropractor. He fixed my spine. I still have problems with my neck. Being that I had 2 strokes in 2001 I can't get noone  will touch my neck in fear of causing  me another stroke

I have had to have MRI's for my Multiple Sclerosis too many times to count... if I never had to do another that would be fine with me...

I've never had an MRI... however my son did.  He was 2 months old.  And for a breast feeding baby and Momma it was a mini traumatic experience.  Well at least than it was.  Now that I look back it was no big deal after all.  Anyhow.  He was having one done for vision.  Nystagmus is what they call it.  The only thing they found was fluid build up behind the ears.  Ear tube insertion was all he needed.  To this day his eye's still quiver.  They always will.  I'm so glad I went with the MRI or his hearing and speech could have been challenged before kindergarten.  I hope it works out for you.
