Picnic Food Ideas?
« on: May 26, 2014, 12:04:27 pm »
I haven't been on a picnic in a long time.  What is your dish or drink that you would bring? They are fun to go and to be invited as well lol.

There are lots of goodies to take to a picnic. If you take drinks, you could buy sodas and waters and ice to put in coolers. Easy food to take are chips or go to the deli at a grocery store and get already made potato salads, cole slaw or other deli meats/breads. Another idea would be to bring hotdogs or hamburgers for the grill, but you can take almost anything. Hope you have fun today!

I like to make cold pasta salads for picnics.  I discovered a sauce mix that you can buy in a box to mix in with your pasta.  I like the curly pasta that comes in different colors.  I usually mix in cherry tomatoes, black olives and zucchini squash.  Hmmmm, this is making me want to go make some now!

I would bring turkey, ham, with cheese sandwiches, and chips... also fruit too. For dessert I would bring cake or ice cream and for drinks I like to have water or juice.

When invited I always ask the host if there is anything particular they would prefer me to bring.  Usually they have the meat covered as there is a grill master involved.  If they say just bring whatever than It all depends on how much time I have available.  Who is going to be there and what the weather conditions are like.  One time I actually brought peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (similar to smuckers crustables)  I knew there would be a ton of kids at this particular picnic and they made great grab and goes for them.

There's this really good desert that i make with vanilla wafers and vanilla pudding with cut up bananas mixed in with it, you have to keep it cold so it might be hard to picnic with but it tastes amazing so its worth it!!

Would you care to share this recipe, because that sounds sooo yummy! :)

I haven't been on a picnic in ages, but fruit salad sounds delicious. Since late Friday night I've been having a severe craving for slushies! Got so bad I had to go online to find out how to make them at home!!! :)

I like to make a bag of finger food veggies and keep them cold, Also a crisp cold salad. Or a dessert that will not ruin in the heat. But always transport in coolers and keep cold until ready to eat and then put it back in the cooler if not all ate. I use the large 2 quart orange or grapefruit cartons filled with water  and frozen they stay frozen for a long time. Later on in the day you will have refreshing cold water to drink or sponge off with.

My favorite thing to take to a picnic is devilled eggs and potato salad. They are really easy to make and are entirely portable. The other thing that I have wanted to try but haven't done so yet is vol-o-vants. (Don't know how you spell it!). They are the little flaky pastry cases which you buy empty from the store and then fill in with shrimp cocktail or mushrooms and chicken. They are superb hot but equally good cold - and very more-ish!

Fruit salad! It's so refreshing in the warmer weather! Or some cookies, they never go missed!

Any kind of fruit is a good picnic food, strawberries would be perfect and easy to pack up. But i would also put a turkey sandwich with some juice in their to.
