I believe that music can affect emotions, behavior, and beliefs of people, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it could make someone depressed. I don't think music can cause mental disorders such as depression. If anything, music helps with that kind of stuff.

In my opinion music does effect our emotional state.  If music can be uplifting and bring feelings of serenity then other music could bring feelings of anger or violence.  This doesn't mean, as others have noted, that we need to act on those feelings.

That's a good question, newbie.

I can certainly get sad by listening to some country music songs  :( and I can get revved up to exercise harder with rock music.  Movies tend to get me crying if there's some sad music to intensify the mood. Some music can even cheer me up to a better mood or inspire me.  :rainbow:

There are probably some songs that can incite people to be depressed or violent, but even words alone (without music) can do that.
>:(

So, the effects music can have on your mind or brain depend largely on the kind of music you choose to listen to. To experience positive psychological effects of music, you should listen to only good music. A sound which spells melody is good music. It's the sound that has the power of creating a calm. That's the magic of music, I think. Listening to music gives me divine pleasure. What about you?

Songs make you feels all different types of emotions. It can be soothing and calming and it could also be upbeat and makes you do all certain kinds of things like dancing and going crazy. The ones that I do not like at all are the swearing ones. There is no place like that. The Lord said your body is his Temple, So I treat what I do listen to like so.

Music does affect a person's mood and also the ability to learn.

"Music stimulates both the right and left sides of the brain as well as the limbic system, which aids in musical and emotional responses. Since the limbic system is responsible for long-term memory, using music while learning new material may help retain the knowledge."

As said above it applies a lot to what the person mental state. I don't think their is a song out there that if you listen you will do what it says. Music can be a blessing as well. It definitely change the way people behave, but probably not a whole lot.

I think that your selection of which music to listen to can be influenced by your mood.  In which case it will deepen your mood.
So if I'm down I'll purposefully put on upbeat music and hopefully the sads will go away.

I don't think that violent music can CAUSE violent behavior.  If someone has that tendency in the first place they may seek it out and the message may reinforce their behavior.
