Everybody is going natural and doing away with the perm do anyone feel that it takes more to keep up a natural head than a perm head?

It sure does for me.  My hair is fine-textured, limp & flat, and I need body in my 'do to look my best.  The shape of my face is not conducive to wearing my hair straight.

I have kept my hair cut short for the last few years and am growing it out now. I want to go natural myself. I think that some ppl make the mistake of thinking that they don't need to do much to their hair once they go natural. It still has to be taken care of. Some people can wash their hair and go, but many of us can't. It can take more work depending on how easy or hard your natural hair is to manage.

I know that natural is more work to keep up.

I have naturally curly hair and it just does what it wants to. Coloring and perms are too expensive, I have a hard enough time getting the money for just a haircut.

No it definitely does not take more to upkeep natural hair, as perms, coloring, plus having to go to the salon, are way expensive to keep up with on a weekly basis.

Keeping your hair natural is much easier, I say I let God color my hair (grey), do my nails, natural and don't have to go to the salon and that's a huge savings...

I think it takes a lot of money to get ur permed and healthy. I also think perms went away 15 yrs ago, the straight look is in.  robyn

Ugh.. I've got naturally curly hair and it drives me nuts.  I never understood why anyone would want to perm their hair.  I guess the grass is always greener on the other side, LOL.

I'm sure she actually meant a relaxer. African American tend to refer to relaxers as perms but mean chemically straightening and not the curling process

If anything I like my hair better in the natural form. It's a lot more versatile and it's easier to keep up than trying to maintain straight hair. I can wear my hair curly, wavy or straight or in whatever else style I want and don't have to deal with that smell and possible burns

i feel like hair is a superficial thing. it is a key to someones attractiveness, but all of the colors, weave, all of that is excessive

I have always hated everything about permanents. My mom used to take me all the time when I was young. They are stinky, really stinky, and then you can't do anything with the kinkiness afterwards.  :'(

When I think about the chemicals that your body is getting exposed to while getting a perm, it makes me cringe. I have just used a hot iron since I got away from my mother's hair control.  :rainbow:

Love you mom , but not so much those permanent waves.
