I have always hated everything about permanents. My mom used to take me all the time when I was young. They are stinky, really stinky, and then you can't do anything with the kinkiness afterwards.  :'(

When I think about the chemicals that your body is getting exposed to while getting a perm, it makes me cringe. I have just used a hot iron since I got away from my mother's hair control.  :rainbow:

Love you mom , but not so much those permanent waves.

Hair,Hair,Hair..What a wonderful and at times hard to accomplish the perfect ( color and style)
I used to spend 100.00 of dollars each month trying to keep up with all the new look's!! of coarse that was a few years ago when i had that type of money, I now have learned to color my own hair without the first time nightmare of a dye job memory!
thanks for reading and hope everyone has a good day! :rose: :in-love:

Whatever I do to my hair it grabs it and shakes.  I can't even use conditioner because my hair will do NOTHING afterwards -
So a few years ago, actually about 20, my hairdresser suggested a perm - for the body adding.  I said - oh no - I'll be a frizz ball. (remembering the Toni and Tonettes of years ago).  She said - the perms are so different now - you'll just have a slight wave but more body.

Silly me I said okay let's give it a try.  Well you know by now what happened don't you?  Frizz Ball!!  I couldn't wait for it to grow out and this time NEVER AGAIN.

Everybody is going natural and doing away with the perm do anyone feel that it takes more to keep up a natural head than a perm head?

I THINK PERMS  LOOK very  fake  and cheap

A perm is so bad for your hair. There are more natural options to curling your hair, even though it is more time consuming, but better. I think if you do perm your hair you should give it a rest and do some deep conditioning and see how you like it. If not then look at some more natural options, there have to be some out there

I think it definitely takes more to have a perm than doing it natural. I do like the look perms give though.

I think it depends on the individual. For me, maintaining natural hair works better.

Yes and no. When my natural hair was short post big chop? Easy as ever. Loved it. Now?
Even though I prefer the look of my natural hair better it's just a pain. If I don't take time to braid it or otherwise
stretch it at night, it will definitely tangle and break.  I get so annoyed when non-black folks say my hair
is wild or untame because they don't have to put half as much work into their hair and still have no problems with retention.

Anyway, as much as I'm going to miss my kinks and coils I'm probably going back to relaxed soon. It was longer then than it ever has been natural really. I'd rather just wrap it at night and retouch once a month than do all this work on a daily basis.

Perms can be so unpreditable, but then so can my sometimes curly sometimes wavy sometimes rooster head hair.  I used to have perms as a kid but now I just keep my hair short I never end up spending much time on it.  But, I am getting older and long hair seems a little foolish looking now.

My mother prayed for a little girl with naturally curly hair...and she got one...me.  My advice...never pray for naturally curly hair.  I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Speaking of perms, has anyone heard of a Rod-to-Roller perm?   About 25 years ago I got them from my hairdresser for about 5 years.  She gave beautiful ones and then got out of the business.  I quit having them and now hardly any hairdresser has heard of them.  I have Caucasian hair and my hair never looked so good.  I used to get complements regularly.  I would like to find someone who could give one like my former hairdresser did!!!!! Ever have one or hear of them????????
