You should google the history of captchas. It's actually pretty interesting. Before marketers used them as ads, it was actually part of a project to decode old text from a book, magazine, etc.

They even have a name for all those crazy word puzzles. It's called Inglip.

It's not an abbreviation.  Just a randomly generated word that became the start of Internet folklore:

The captcha is meant to separate humans from whatever else is on the planet.  Some of them are meant to be simple, and some of them are complicated.  I have never had a problem with captchas unless they are scrambled like eggs.
