We own; we've been in this house for 36 years but plan to sell and build in the next few years.

Neither. Currently dealing with a mortgage so even though that would be considered as owning, we don't actually own it yet. Still got a long time left to pay it off.  :-\

We are currently renting.. We have the option to eventually do rent to own but my husband and I are not sure what are plans are in the few years as far as where we want to live.

Next July our mortgage will be paid in full and we will then be the "official" owners of our home.
Have a wonderful day!

I own.  I have rented and I hate that.  I agree with the poster who said renting is throwing money away.  But some people do not have a choice.  When I first moved out on my own I did not have a choice.  It is hard to rent and save money for a down payment too.  There are advantages to both I guess.  But personally, I don't like someone telling me what to do or what I can do or have in my house or on my property.  I get that if you rent it is not really yours.  :)  I also had an issue a long long time ago I was renting a trailer and I am pretty sure the perv I rented from had a camera in there.  He was in the trailer every day when I was not there to "fix" something or "check on something".  What he was doing was changing the film in the camera. lol.

I actually had a guy I use to work with that told me this was perfectly legal.  So to clarify I said "you are saying it is legal and okay for him to video me without my knowledge changing clothes, taking a shower, naked, and whatever."  And he said "yes, as long as he does not share it with anyone else".  That made me so mad I could not respond.

I moved out as soon as I could find somewhere else to go.

We own a house, still have mortgage payment, we are exited to be done with in 2 years more to go..
I agree with you, some people don`t have a choice, its hard to save for down payment. And shelter is very important.

I own, have always hated renting with other people living around and on top you.  I would love to move elsewhere with more acreage.  I don't particular like people and my neighbors are really abhorrent.

I own or lets say once the mortgage is paid off, I will be official owner; have not rented since my earlier days right after college; although I do understand today why a lot of people rent, it is really difficult to qualify for mortgage and for many renting is their only option, with young adults coming out of college today they have so much debt from getting their education, so I totally understand why they rent and some older people just prefer renting over owning. I think most do what ever their personal preferance is.
