fraud is a crime
« on: August 22, 2014, 07:20:04 am »
when someone tries to buy something with your credit or debit card and you catch it, you catch a criminal and keep him from committing a crime. I check my account every day. I advise that. That is how I caught the transaction the very same day of the pending post.

You are absolutely right.  Nobody can protect oneself better than oneself.  Finances, career, health (well we can try) you name it.  I had someone buy some sort of vacation deal and caught the transaction right when it occurred.  My bank was able to reverse the transaction and all fee's were avoided in my doing so.  Sad we have to stay on top of things but it's imperative that we do so.

I a gree fraud is a crime and that is why it is nice to have these credit fraud companies monitoring your account. I had someone from China call me in the middle of the night to verify my paypal account was suppose to be used. This was great since I live in the US. They never put thru the charge and I thanked them for checking.

It's not necessary to check your account every day. To each their own, but that sounds like an extreme case of paranoia.

I get a text every time a transaction happens on my bank account. I wouldn't actually go through the effort of checking my account every day though unless I was using my debit card a lot more often and needed to keep track of the balance

That is really odd. I don't know why anyone would call you to verify a charge.  Unless it was flagged by that account as fraud or unusual activity.

That's is a crime. The best way to prevent this is by not giving your personal information out to strangers or to any phishing sites.

You have to be very careful with any accounts with money. Someone accessed my Paypal account and was about to transfer all my money to their bank account, but luckily I caught it in time!  That resulted in me changing a number of my passwords on various websites.
