I like the charity aspect, but wasting water does not sound right.

I like the charity aspect, but wasting water does not sound right.

It's not wasting if you do it over grass, or in the shower, or at the beach, at the pool, etc...
You can save the water by skipping flushing the toliet once or twice.   Gallon of water saved  :)
Here in California we have a terrible drought, but my crazy neighbors still turn their sprinklers on every freaking day & the guy across the street still washes his car for hours every week.   Now those are terrible wastes of water :/

I was challenged but have yet to do it...  Been so busy. I think it's for a good cause and it's really not wasting that much water.  Yes, many people are doing it but we all use and waste water daily.  I usually don't like to do the challenges that go around on Facebook, but this one is for a good cause... So I might actually do it.

i think its fine as long as you donate. Most people are just doing it for fun and they are forgetting about the real purpose of the challenge

I think this was a great idea. There've been several challenges that have gone around the internet, but most are just to try doing the challenge and have no other benefit associated with them. So this was a nice way to get donations by making a challenge that was likely to go viral.

I was sort of thinking of doing something similar for diabetes... Since cinnamon is thought to have beneficial effects in lowering blood sugar levels and may even be a helpful supplement for those with type 2 diabetes, my idea was to use the cinnamon challenge (swallow a spoonful of cinnamon without drinking anything to wash it down) as a challenge to raise money... I'm only afraid that there have been a few reported cases where participants in the cinnamon challenge have to be hospitalized, esp. if the cinnamon is accidentally inhaled and caused damage in the lungs (and since most people gag and cough, they end up expelling a cloud of cinnamon which is then easier to accidentally inhale). So it isn't quite as safe as having a bucket of cold water poured over a person's head. Also the cinnamon challenge is much more difficult to actually complete (most people fail in their attempt).

What does everyone think of this? My boss at work wanted us all do it b/c he had been challenged. I like the charity part and raising awareness but don't like wasting water. Everyone seems to have different opinions about this.
Just donate and forget about the water. The challenge according to the stats has raised 88-94 million dollars. I guess it is working. But you don't have to waste the water.

I think this is over. we have to start a new one like one person should help people and nominate others to help others this should go on so one day some one will help us in future.... ;)

You can pour the water into your mouth or use toilet bowl water or swimming pool water or just give money and dump an empty bucket.  :)

I don't know the current amount of money raised doing the ice bucket challenge but every penny helps. But lets not forget there are over 40 MDA diseases that need help too so why not log onto the MDA web site and make a donation on this Labor day. I've watched to many kids and adults die because of them. Even $5 helps. And yes I'm sorry to be on a band wagon but as I stated before my mom has one of the 40.

I think a lot of people still dont understand what ALS is but they do it and nominate someone just to see how that react to getting iced water dumped on them. But if you want to donate then donate. If i were to get nominated, i wont do it anyway.

I wouldn't consider raising awareness and millions of dollars pointless. I get the feeling that people posting a video of them writing a check out, wouldn't have had the same effect.

I don't see it as wasting water, it is for a good cause but I wouldn't do it for health reasons.
