I've been watching quite a few of my friends on FB do the challenge but have no desire to dump a bucket of water over my head.  Its for a good cause and hopefully is raising lots of money and lots of awareness of this disease.  One of my cousins' wife has it and was diagnosed a little over 2 years ago and it is very sad to see the way she is deteriating.

I think it is a great idea.
A bunch of people having fun with it, making people aware of the disease, increasing the revenue for the charity - which is rated highly by watch groups for the money actually going towards research & not admin fees.    Win - Win situation for everyone.

I think the idea of making something like that go viral raises very good awarness but anyone donating to anything should really do there research on what that money is going towards.

I'm mixed about this. I sort of feel like your forced to do this. I know it is a good cause and all, but does it have to be forced down my throat. Just raise the awareness. Not that dumping a bucket of cold water and ice over your head is hard. However I haven't been nominated yet...and am not looking forward to it. Seeing I don't have the money to be donating I'll have to dump.

What does everyone think of this? My boss at work wanted us all do it b/c he had been challenged. I like the charity part and raising awareness but don't like wasting water. Everyone seems to have different opinions about this.

I am not sure what the point of it all is anyway.  I have tried to find out and from what I can figure out if you do not dump water on your head you have to donate money.  But I guess if you do dump water on your head you do not?  I do not agree that it is wasting water.  It is not that big of deal and you do not have to use a bunch of water.  I personally would not do it and I do not even know what ALS is.  And no I am not going to look it up.  There are a ton of charities out there and other causes that when I have money to give I support.  If you boss challenges you to do this you can ignore it.  Not everyone has extra money to donate to any charity.  There are people fighting to just keep a roof over their head and I think it is wrong to try to make someone feel bad for not having money to give to some charity.  Especially when most charities the majority of the money goes to line the pockets of the CEO or some other big shot and very little actually goes to the charity.  I worked ONE night thru a temp service on a job where we called people to get donations for cancer I think.  I found out that out of the $10 donation we asked for only .50 yes that is 50 cents actually went to the charity.  Actually, not even that much because the guy over it took the money and left and no one ever saw him again.

Both my kids have been nominated.  My daughter has gone through with it and my son is excited about it.  I didn't even know what ALS was before.  I've heard of it but didn't know anything - it has certainly gotten people talking in making them knowledgeable regarding the subject... however; I think it's now gotten to the point that people are just doing it because everyone else is.

I am tired of seeing the videos, but they are raising money for a good cause. My father-in-law died of ALS in 2001 so I support the cause.

My mom has one of the MDA diseases (not ALS) so I know a lot about the different ones and ALS is one of the worst. It doesn't take long for ALS to incapacitate you and It is one of the ones that the doctors is working on for a cure just like the one my  mom has is but the money is greatly needed so if someone has to have a bucket of ice poured over them to get awareness out there I say H--L YEAH.

If you do not want to waste water then do it on a grassy side so the grass will get much need it water, if you water your plants or garden then use the water on that area and kill 2 birds with one stone.  Or do it like I have seen a couple of people, on your bathtub so the water goes down the same way as the water you use to take a shower everyday.

It is for a worth it cause, my daughter got challenged twice and she did it with her friend on my yard, they love it.  But if you do not like then ignore it.

I just HATE the jump on the bandwagon thing!  1st I hate cold~I think I would have a semi heart attack if someone dumped a bucket of freezing water on me!! 2nd who said we had to do any of this??  3rd I'm all for science finding cures, but not at the expense of another living thing!!! Now there is a scientific "need" for abortion! Disgusting!!!
