A quote from Picasso saying that he did his art because he had not done it before...

My favorite quote is by Steve Prefontaine: "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." I love it because it's a great source of inspiration to give your 100% best at everything you do.

My favorite quote is.....

Everything happens for a reason

Why is it my favorite quote?

Because then i get a chance to really show how silly it is and what it really means behind the thought process of those using it!!

What do you mean by that? Just that you don't agree with the quote?

"There is no justice in the laws of Nature, no term for fairness in the equations of motion. The universe is neither evil, nor good, it simply does not care. The stars don't care, or the Sun, or the sky. But they don't have to! We care! There is light in the world, and it is us!"

MH...many use the quote to make it seem God is manipulating...or theres a pre-destiny.Planned life etc.

Hardly the case.

Eccl 8: 9 read Time and unforseen occurrence befalls everyone.

IOW...wrong place at wrong time happens to all of us.

My favorite quote is one I came across in, of all things, a fortune cookie many, many years ago. It is:
The greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising each time you fall.

Interesting take for sure. I am not sure how unforeseen occurrences has anything to do with that text. Care to elaborate?

MH..i will gladly explain.Thanx.

How many times has a loved one or a friend or just a generally good guy been killed in  car accident that may have been caused by a drunken driver? Then you hear public perception <not from everyone>...why does god only take the good ones?

God had NOTHING to do why that happened.Time and unforseen occurrence.Wrong place wrong time. Many may say,it happened for a reason.God planned it etc.

Now if u said the driver being drunk could have contributed to it,that is true. But also rememeber the deceased had to be in wrong place at wrong time too.

It wasnt destined to happen.

You could have been in Vietnam and not got shot and then come home and get robbed and shot. The chance of yo being shot in Vietnam may have been greater for that to have happened to you then being shot in your home town. But it also doesnt mean something like that could never have happened either.

Maybe some people have been struck more than once by lightning. But also maybe they were cos they made themselves vulnerable to it.Being on golf course or on a boat where chances were greater.

Hitch,

I agree that certain situations are more prone to bad outcomes (like war and the lightning you described). However, how do we know that God didn't have that particular ending in place for us? Maybe He planned for us to survive Vietnam and later be shot at home. My view is that we have choices all throughout life, so that our path branches out in billions of possible paths, but that eventually we end up in the one spot that God intended. So maybe we don't know what the specific reason is for that car accident at the time, but eventually it leads us to where we are meant to be. Just my take!

MH....i understand what you are saying but consider looking at this from Gods view.

First off,he gave us freedom of choice for a reason. The human being is wonderfully made says bible. Many say God knew Adam and Eve would sin already before they did.Did Could God have known that?Yes....if he chose to.But he chose NOT to.Otherwise why would he bother warning them of penalty?

I used the example about Lots wife. They were warned NOT to look back at Sodom.Lots wife had a desire to dis-obey.God cannot be the cause of what she desired. She caused it.

God can put things in place but remember we have to carry out what the outcome may be.And again He can also decide to know the future and choose NOT to know.If God is defined as being love woldnt you like to believe he has the best interest in mind for his creation?

The Egyptians didnt have to die with Red Sea burying them in Exodus.Pharoahs heart was against God all the time.He paid for it eventually dis-obeying.

The name Jehovah means "He causes to become"Just because A&E and Satan rebelled in Eden doesnt mean Gods purpose wont come to be.He made provision thru Jesus to wipe out the sin in Eden.So his purpose will come to be.But again remember Freedom of choice plays a part too.
