What's The Point?
« on: August 27, 2014, 09:24:12 pm »

What is the point of running away from the cops when they either pull you over or flash their lights at you to get you to pull over...

1..They already ran your plates so even if you are fast and get away.. They will find you..
2.. When you run that is resisting arrest added on to your jailtime..
3..Your libel to hurt yourself or someone else for your stupidity
                    and last but not least
Why run in the first place? You make yourself look guilty by running, and you probably made matters worse and will be charged more than what you were actually pulled over for...

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure a lot of things go through a person's head. Unless they have something to hide in the vehicle, I think it was a careless instinctual decision. I think the same thing about people wield fake guns and not putting them down when the police are around.

I think some of the people have even more serious crimes they are running away from and are hoping to not get caught with (drugs, unregistered guns, etc) and think that if they can get away, they have a better chance of not getting in trouble.  Plus, I'm sure it's not always their car registered to them.  That, or many of them are under the influence and not thinking straight anyway...

The point is the person does not want to go to jail.  Most times if people run they know that is going to be their fate.  And just because the plate is run does not mean it is the person who is in the driver's seat.  It can be a stolen car, someone else's car, or just a stolen or old plate that was put on the car.  And if the person can get away even if the cop knows who they are then it is just that - they get away.  I know a man who was being chased and he was drunk.  He got away and the cop did not see where he went.  They gave up pursuit.  Yes, they had his tags.  He abandoned his car and went home.  He had someone willing to say he was at their house all night (the night of the pursuit) and he reported the car stolen.  So he in the end was not charged with DUI.

Most do not get away.  You still get in trouble for all the hassle you give the police.

I guess they think they have a chance to get away without getting into any trouble

Sometimes a person will run from the cops in an effort to gt rid of contraband... If they had drugs in the car, they may try to out run the cops just to throw out the drugs, so that if the cops do catch them, they wouldn't have any evidence of the drugs.

I have to agree with you on that, very well said.  By running they will find you later they already have all your information unless you are driving someone else's car.

Some just flat out panic, mostly those that are pretty innocent but they go haywire at the time the lights come on... pretty much understood by most experienced cops. A vast majority that REALLY run and go into all manner of reckless behavior to escape are probably already in trouble with the law, parole violations, outstanding warrants, or fleeing to ditch evidence of a crime. Pretty stupid in the long run but at the time it seems as their only option.

I think the natural reaction for many is to run.  But logically, you are right, why run?  Sooner or later you will get caught.  So as the saying goes, you can run but you can't hide.  >:(

Their guilty of something that's why they're running.

good question, and good points...I have always wondered the same thing. I feel like if people are stupid enough to commit crimes and think they can get away with, they're stupid enough to try and run from the cops.

I think that just getting rid of guns would be the best solution for so many deaths due to guns and gun rights. If nobody had the right to own guns nobody would be owning guns therefore, nobody will be shooting each other!

I always figure they are guilty of more than just speeding if they try to outrun the police.
Have a wonderful day!

They are not thinking to stop for the police.  They want to run away like little frighten kids.
