What do you do when the power goes out at night?

Depends on how late at night it is.  If it's later in the evening, I'll just go to bed early.  If it's earlier in the evening, I'll light a bunch of candles and lanterns then read a book or maybe do a little housework (pick up stuff, dust, hand wash some dishes if the water is running).  I might play some solitaire or some other project about the house that doesn't require electricity.  I've always got a list of stuff to pick from.

Light candles,  but it usually doesn't last long in my neighborhood.

I light a candle and then find the flash light.  Have a good day.

Sleep or play on my phone

Usually when this happens this is at night, so I just go to bed earlier. I just make sure my battery alarm is still working, unless I'm not working the next day. However, this usually does happen on a workday.

I just go to bed.  In fact this happened last week.  We had some thunderstorms and lightning knocked out power.  Since I couldn't do anything - watch TV or work on the computer - I figured I might as well go to bed and get some extra sleep for once.

 If it did, I would just sleep if my house temp. was comfortable. Maybe turn on a candle and place it on a safe place

If it's dark I just go to sleep.  usually we loose power during the day time so we just wait for it to come back on.

If it happens during the day, I just wait for it to return. If it happens at night, I wait for it to return or until I am ready to go to bed.

I usually light a candle or two and maybe read or just sit quietly and watch the flames or maybe listen to music on my ipod while lying down watching the shadows dance. Unless I'm tired, then I just go to sleep.

The last time the power went out for more than an hour we used candles. Enjoyed each others company.

Since hurricane Sandy, I keep flashlights in a location wherein it's easily accessed just in case the electricity goes out. That way battery powered radio is active for listening, this makes up for extra hours after story telling :-)
