instructions
« on: September 12, 2014, 09:48:54 am »
There are instructions on many things in life.
Batteries need to be recharged.
Updates need to be made.

"If the light turns red, it means this."  "if the light turns blue, it means this." yellow, green, red....."

Then, there are assembling instructions.  There are instructions on how to return items you bought and aren't happy with. There are instructions on how to play a game.

Yes Gerianne, that's how we operate. Think of it in reverse...

Instructions, instructions, instructions! I remember a teacher in fifth grade who was shocked to see that basically everything had instructions, even how to open a can of peas! He was from a different country, and said that he had never seen anything like it. He was almost outraged. I'll never forget what he said next! He said that he was surprised that toilette paper packaging did not come with instructions on how to wipe one's bottom. We all laughed of course, but come to think of it, he made a good point! Personally, I'm not good at assembling anything, especially computer desks, among other things! It makes me insane when I can't figure it out, so I let the hubby do it instead!

What I find ironic is that even with all of those instructions, people have a tendency to not read them until after they run into trouble. And even then, people will go to some forum asking for help even though the instructions clearly answer their question had they bothered to read it first. Although it may be a little snotty, I'll sometimes just answer with "RTFM": Read The Fine Manual

Sometimes what seems simple to you in the instructions is not simple to someone else.  I bought a soda stream and I done exactly what the instructions said to do.  But it did not work.  I finally got it to work after watching several online videos.  You do NOT just press the button 3 times and get a buzz.  Sometimes you have to press it 10 times to get the first buzz.  So the instructions were worthless.

Instructions can sometimes be easy and sometimes hard to understand. But I have noticed that most products I buy are just easy to use right out of the box. But you do get those ones that the instructions make no sense at all. Makes you wonder who write them.

I saw a set of instructions lately on an infant garment that was made in China.  One of the washing instructions was to remove the child before washing the garment.

I am not making this up.
