I like the terrible teens as well.....it was easier with my children when they were younger, once they got older or (smelling they self like my mom would say) it was a task....if I say up, they say down, if I say red, they say green.....

It's all a matter of attitude.  Remember you want them to be independent human beings so let them develop in to strong individuals.

At times they can be a handful, but then there are those moments when their little personalities shines through and you can't help but smile and be amazed.
