Everyone coming from an infected area should be quarantined at least 30 days before being allowed in to our country.

I agree those people should be quarantined after getting here, but the simple method would be to ban all flights coming from West Africa,  That's hard to do since they are not direct flights from Africa to the USA.
They can ban ALL flights leaving the infected areas, period. A few exceptions could be made for medical personel, as long as they are quarantined at their destinations.

You're right about that.

I don't think the person coming to the U.S. knew they had Ebola.  I understand they displayed no signs of the disease during preboarding precautions taken before boarding the plane (i.e. they had no fever and did not display any other symptoms of the disease) so to suggest that this person aught to have just sat in isolation somewhere doesn't make sense to me.  Why would they do that if they didn't even know they had the disease?
He knew he came in contact with the woman who died from it. So he should have known he was infected. Some people just don't care about anyone else but themselves, not even their families. It's despicable that he came over here, not only risking the infection of Americans, but risking his own family!

Some people are angry that they are infected and want to infect others to "get even" because they got it.

It is so scary! I keep reading things about it and people are posting things on Facebook they are reading and it just gets scarier! One of my friends had posted that she had watched a show with some expert on epidemics and predicted 1.5 million deaths by February 2015 from Ebola. I don't remember the show or the expert but number was unforgettable!

This is why I choose to ignore most media sensationalism like this these days - the media is making a mountain out of this molehill.  Is Ebola a hard virus to cure - yeah.  Is Ebola an easy virus to catch? No.

Arm yourselves with information to reduce your fears - most of what I'm hearing is media venues trying to raise their numbers and revenue by playing to people's fears.  Don't give into that scheme.

Facts about Ebola widely available on reputable sites clearly state the only way to really get the virus from another human is mainly through contact of the bodily fluids from an infected person, and get those fluids into your body's fluids - like absorbed through an open wound or membranes in your eyes/nose/mouth.  Basically, if you follow standard practices for avoiding the flu - like washing your hands after touching anything public - you should be fine.

You can get the virus from animals carrying the disease, but unless you are traveling to the infected countries in Africa, you should be okay on that front too.

The flu virus is more resilient than Ebola - bleach, heat, direct sunlight, soap/detergent can kill the Ebola virus, and in pretty quick time too.  The flu virus can linger on objects for you to pick up long after any Ebola virus has long died out.

Regarding the 1.5 million figure - that is the estimated projected number of infected people in the countries of Sierra Leone and Liberia by January (where the majority of this current outbreak is centered).  The report excluded Guinea from the estimate as the Ebola reports from there are too varied to create a reliable model to project.  This is the worst case scenario.  The same report also indicates the best case scenario is the outbreak will be completely contained by January.  Based on history - in reality, most likely we'll be somewhere in the middle, with the containment gaining ground by January of next year.

Hopefully this information will help alleviate some fears being fanned by all the media attention.

Yes, I live within 100 miles of VCU.  I'm not liking that one bit.

I feel like this is an epidemic at this point. A Nurse who was fully covered whiled she treated the Ebola patient has now contracted the disease. We need to brace ourselves my friends.

What I find sickening is the DOCTORS who feel they do not have to full the instructions of the little people (us).

Dr. Nancy Snyderman goes to a restaurant for take out food even though she was in contact with an Ebola patient when she was over there and her cameraman contracts the disease.

Now we have the new doctor who worked with Ebola patients who came home (on a plane), went on 3 subways, 2 bowling alleys, and a restaurant, and has Ebola (NYC).  Did he use the restrooms at any of those spots? They closed one bowling alley but the other one stayed open.  What makes me a bit uneasy is the mayor stated "We have been preparing for this for months." Does he know something we don't? It sounds like it.

What makes HIM more special that he doesn't have to self-quarantine himself for 21 days after coming from the hot spot?

The good news is the two nurses are recovering quite well or have recovered. Ms. Pham has been discharged and I believe so has Ms. Vinson.
