Rich Homeless !
« on: October 17, 2014, 09:32:59 pm »
Have you seen those people with signs that say they are homeless and ask for money?

Well my niece said she saw one picked up by a very nice car. He was wearing better brand shoes then her and other stuff, she claims he quickly went inside an expensive car and another one came out, like changing shifts. He gave the cardboard to the next guy and waved bye at him.  :moneymouth:  :'(  >:(

Shameful.  I don't give money to people on the street.

I believe that some of that goes on. For what reason I have no idea. But I also believe that the majority of the homeless are truly homeless.

I saw a news story just the other day where someone was panhandling and a passerby gave him $15. Then when he was in the car park later he saw the panhandler leaving in a very new car and as she stopped to give way to traffic, she was counting her bills whilst waiting! Shocking! It really ruins it for those who genuinely need a bit of help. Whoever does this,.. big shame on you!

My sons and I have had financial difficulties since my husband died and we still give money to what we believe to be homeless but it is discouraging because I know there are a lot of scams like this - shame on those people.  Now the people we give to we have seen the lady limping down the road but who knows?

From what I've heard, there are rich people that will walk around looking homeless. I don't understand why they would live so frugal. But too, there are so many  people who give money to people holding signs at stop signs, but from what I've seen, they are poor vets, sex offenders, druggies. But I usually see them going in the stores buying beer. I don't give them money.

Yeah, I believe it.  There's recently been a viral video going around the internet where an elderly woman in Oklahoma panhandles on a certain street collecting money from cars that are stopped at the light.  She, too, was recently seen (after panhandling) sitting in the driver's seat of a 2013 car.  A young man who, on almost a DAILY basis, was giving this woman money, went off on her.  This guy even gave up his own lunch money one day to give her the money because he felt bad.  He has now sworn that he will never give money to someone begging on the street again.  When she was approached by a local news crew about the video, she started screaming at the reporter to get away from her and hit him a few times.  This woman still panhandles on the same street corner.

Here's the video I was talking about.  Scroll down the page a way to see the first video (the viral video).  Closer to the top is the video where she attacks the news crew for asking her questions:

There was a 'homeless' man standing on a corner with a sign I will work for food/money I am a vet.  Everyday a contractor friend would drive by and give him a few dollars.  After about two weeks, he stopped gave him some money and said 'jump in my truck, I can put you to work today and will give you $50.00 and lunch.  Can you believe when the guy said 'not interested'!  That was the last time my friend ever gave out money!

I find it hard to believe that there are more scam artists than truly homeless people. If you have enough food on the table at home, I personally feel you should give.  :angel11:

None of them have cards to check to see if they're legit, so how would you know? But do you want to pass them by if they truly have little?

If you became homeless and had to beg for sustenance, would you want people to pass you by because they assumed you were a scam artist?  :(

If they're scamming you, you lost a little money. If they needed your help and you helped them, you are a good deed doer. Doesn't that feel better?  :-\

I'm more likely to go buy someone something to eat or drink then just give them money. I've seen way too many people begging for money but have alcohol and cigarettes.

I gave one guy money one day and he told me it wasn't enough and it wouldn't kill me to give him how much he needed.

Yes! They are rich and homeless! They live in a car because they do not have a house to go to. They are homeless!

Okay, maybe there are some "homeless" scammers out there but really, why would someone "rich" want to waste their time picking up a bit of extra cash by panhandling?  If I have time I will offer to buy food or coffee but I have also just given money.  I know some of it will likely end up buying cigarettes or alcohol but in the end, who am I to judge what these people do with their money.  Many studies show that the vast majority of street people suffer from *treatable* mental illness but lack the financial and mental resources to get the help they need.
