mothers/ childbirth

There's a news story going around saying child birth is not as painful as women claim, what do you think? I have three and know how painful it is?

I had twelve hours of labor with each of two deliveries, after which I had to have c-sections.  But I can tell you that those hours of labor got to be pretty painful, and I can only imagine the actual pain of giving birth!  If you get an epidural or something to help you through the process then the pain will of course be less, but overall I would not agree with the news story.

Im not really sure if I should post here, but I had a planned c section, my son was huge, but honestly my c section was a walk in the park. The worst part for me was the iv being inserted before I went into surgery. But I did not have to push for 12 hours I have no idea what that is like and I cant even imagine what that is like.

child birth is painful, with my first, I didn't even know I was in labor until I went to the hospital and was at a 5, I only pushed for 15-20 minutes with him. With my daughter they had to induce me which was horrible, that was more painful, and then when I was ready to push she wouldn't turn so they had to do a emergency c section on me and that recovery was painful then delivery. My boyfriend says all the time he wouldn't be able to handle child birth at all, and he has a high tolerance for pain.

I've had 4 babies.  All of which I utilized pain reducers.  Epidural for the first 3 and stadal for the last one.  It was painful for me.  I dealt with it as long as I could than said give me the med's.  If it wasn't that bad I would have dealt with it.  I praise all women that go without and those who never had the option of pain med's.  Personally I'm a sissy and if there is relief - I'll take it.

I think childbirth pain is very individualized.  People have different pain tolerance too which affects their take on it.

My experience is vastly different than what my daughter experienced.

I have had four children.  I had very easy deliveries.  I basically had some back aches, that became regular timed aches and pressure that with some pushing on my part gave me a baby each time.   I didn't have any pain meds.  I used to joke with my husband and tell him all he needed to do was catch them and then we could go home.

I was with my daughter when she gave birth to our granddaughter and my daughter was in a lot of pain and did take advantage of modern medical pain relief.

I was in 12 hours of labor and no I did not get a shot. After all that waiting and pain my doctor finally did a c section. I still feel numbness around that area and its 10 years later.

I should imagine the experience is different for everyone. However I had both a normal delivery and a C-section with my first and second children respectively. The first 'normal' delivery was intense. I had many hours of pain and kept ringing up the hospital asking to be taken in because I didn't feel I could cope with any more pain. Finally, at 7cm dilation the hospital admitted me. They then gave me an epidural and from that moment, things went considerably easier. I didn't feel any pain actually giving birth once I had the epidural however the difference prior to and after the injection was as vast as night and day. My second son was breach so I had to have a C-section. So from the moment I entered surgery, they gave me an injection which numbed me from the chest down. I couldn't even take a huge breath my chest was so numb! However, there was no pain having my C-section because of the injection.

I had two births, and let me tell you, it was no walk in the park.!  I had 15 hours with my first and almost 24 with my second (that's why I stopped at 2).  Told my husband if he wanted more, he could have them, my baby making was closed, and since he almost 'dies' with a little cold i would love to see him giving birth!  I bet the article was probably written by a man!

Then I dare those who think it's not painful to at least do this :) :

Must be a story written by a man. Once I had my epidural, it was easy all the way.
