Wedding Gift
« on: October 18, 2014, 10:59:01 pm »
Do you think that a two hundred dollar restaurant.com gift certificate an appropriate wedding gift?  I don't know how I feel about it.  Times I think it a great idea.  Then I don't like the idea that it is really only coupons.  Then I think, well now maybe I would be more apt to go try some thing that I normally wouldn't do, as far as dining out.  You know, finally go to that one restaurant that you felt was off limits for some reason.

I guess I wouldn't complain about getting that kind of gift!

it depends how well you know the couple....seems like a little high, but not unreasonable. It's always night to get gift cards/certificates that don't have expiration dates...

Most couples have a registry at stores. Why not see if they have any. You can buy a cheaper gift than $200.

I can really only speak for myself. On the one had I do feel how lovely it would be to receive a $200 restaurant gift certificate because I would never spend that on myself. On the other hand I would feel bad essentially buying food for $200 when there are so many starving people in the world. And whilst it is lovely in the moment, it is not a lasting gift like for instance a set of saucepans which you would use every day. I realize it is the thought that counts but I don't think I would spend $200 on my own twin on her wedding day much less someone so close! But as I say, I can really only speak for myself.

I think it would be a good gift. I just received a $100.00 gift card for a local restaurant, and I am very pleased.

I would rather have it in cash  ;D  :D

Sounds good, but for me, I rather buy things I could have in my home.

i think that would be a great gift.  because i basically lets them pick where they want to go to eat and its like  free night out on the town or more then one night depending on where you pick to go.

I know it's cheap to buy those Restaurant.com gift cards which is probably why the amount in the OP is so high.

The only consideration I would make before giving that as a gift would be to check Restaurant.com to see what dining options are available for the couple to choose from, and if they are venues the couple would like to eat at.  If there are limited options, or restaurants they probably would not go to, then I'd opt for a gift card to a store on their registry.

Example - in my area, there only 1 restaurant that I would really go to, and the coupon only would pay for 25% of the cost of eating at a pricy restaurant.  None of the other options remotely appeal to me.   However in my sister's neck of the woods, there are hundreds of dining options, several of which they would normally frequent.

I'm not sure. Despite the mentioned amount, the person still has to fulfill certain requirements, so the receiver still has to pay. Also, not all places have a decent amount of supported restaurants from the program. If getting a gift card for restaurants, I would recommend more towards a dedicated gift card to a specific restaurant you think or know they like if you want to get a gift card (but for a wedding, I would actually just suggest money).

I would be very upset if I received this as a gift since there is only one restaurant in our area that is a part of Restaurant.com. In order to use it, I'd have to travel a good hour or more to have more options to choose from. I'd rather have $100 from that one restaurant that is a part of Restaurant.com than I would to get a $200 voucher from the web-site.

If they don't like the gift and accept something that is free like that then they may not be happy with anyone's gift at all. Your gift sounds fine to me that's what id give people having a wedding to
