What would you do?
« on: October 19, 2014, 04:13:05 pm »
I put in for vacation for the day after Christmas and was denied. Never in the 19 yrs of working with my job have I ever been denied! Certain people have a vendetta against me and think they are trying to get back at me or something. Mean while, a week prior to requesting that day I spoke to my other supervisor who keeps track of sick and vacation and told her I was taking off the week of Christmas into New Years. She told me she was taking off as well but DID NOT advise me of anyone else taking off. I would like to know why I got denied but I know it will start controversy! I emailed my boss explaining to her that I prematurely made plans and will not be in the area so if she has to dock me I will understand. She purposely ignored my email! I always request a receipt and she did not accept it and I have sent others that she responded to after that one. I through my other supervisor under the bus telling her she did not tell me if anyone else had off and I have seniority over the majority of the office. So basically they are playing games with me! I feel like going to the township administrator to tell him whats going on! How would you deal with this hostile work environment? :-\

LOL! Thanks! Already on it...but it's sooooo hard to think of change and so many positions are either taken or you need a degree. I have 19 yrs experience! That should be good enough.

I think you should try to get a legitimate reason for why you were denied. Is it possible that too many other people will be out at the same time?  Also, have there been personnel cutbacks recently so there are less people to cover the same work?  If your boss won't tell you why, you should go to the Human Resources Dept. to get an answer.

Do you really want to push this issue?

I know in my state, employers can fire employees for no reason at all - as long as it's not discriminatory.

If you live in a state like that, you may want to re-think how far you want to take this. People in power above you can make your life that much more miserable and this is just probably the tip of the iceberg of what they can do.  :'(

Work on your plan B - start a small business on the side. It's the smarter thing to do.

This happened to my husband this year.. They told him no, but he threatened to quit and he got the day off.. just no pay lol

I would just go to your supervisor and just ask what was going on. My company is a first come first serve on who gets off the christmas days and I think its the first 5 people who ask? im not sure the number, but i always request in August just to be sure!!

i had something similar happen to me when i was still in the work force.  make sure to document everything and i mean everything so that they cant turn it back on you if something negative should happen.  also sounds like its time to start pounding the pavement ie looking for a new job.
