Wrong Country
« on: October 29, 2014, 01:45:09 pm »
When I tried to do a survey I received a notice that it appears I am not in the country that is on my account.  I have been in the United States for years and haven't been out of the country in well over 10 years and that was just a vacation so how do I get this straightened out?  Now I am not allowed to do any surveys.

Whatever caused it now it's straightened out although I had sent a support ticket and I did not hear back from FC on the support ticket but I wasn't given that wrong country notice this morning.  I just didn't qualify for the survey.

I think that means you don't have to pay any income tax! :)

I'm not allowed to get to the FC surveys again because I am no longer in the country that is on my account except I am in the same country and FC has not bothered to answer my support ticket.  It does limit the money I am able to get into my account even though I didn't qualify for most of the surveys, now I don't even get the chance.

This happened to me right after I moved.  It took the admin a while to identify and fix the problem.   My issue was caused by my ISP, not FC. My ISP had either purchased or released some new IP ranges for certain countries, and it took a while for that to update my IP to what it should have been (Time-To-Live on all DNS servers perhaps)

Since my IP changes every few days I guess they have moved some of them out of the country and I'll never be able to do the FC surveys again which means I'll not get enough to cash out before the 6 months is up.  FC sent me an answer to my support ticket stating it might be awhile before they could get it worked out.  It's not looking good for me here anymore.

Sorry about your problem. Eventually FC will fix it.

As "they" told you, it might take a while.

My suggestion is: do not cancel your account,
keep it and when things will get resolved
you can come back and do surveys again.

FC cannot fix it.  It is caused by my IP.  It's always being moved but now it's evidently out of the country and maybe it can be straightened out in June.  Unfortunately I won't be able to make enough money to cash out now unless I do the small amounts every day.

Hey Bowrunner,

The "June" mentioned was a typo.  It should be fixed by December at the latest, but we're pushing to get it done faster.

The issue is actually with the third-party system which provides some FC Surveys, and not with us - that's why we can't fix it faster.

I understand.  I am getting the samplicio.us surveys alright today and I actually did a survey today and received a 1 cent credit for the ones I didn't qualify for so it's better.  I didn't get kicked out for being out of the country.
Thanks for getting back to me.

A question for support - would it do any good to call the company that I get my computer service from?  They have always moved my IP around every couple of days but now it's evidently in another country.  It causes me problems every now and then with all the moving around but it's never affected me quite this much so I haven't bothered to contact them.

It's unlikely that your ISP will be able to do much about this issue.  What happens is that they may acquire new IP addresses that were formerly used in a different country and start issuing them to customers.  All the IP location databases then have to update the country on file for that particular IP or range of IPs.  Some databases are faster and more accurate than others, plus, the company using the IP location database also has to actually update and install the new data every so often (monthly or weekly, usually).  So you can see that from the moment that an IP is reassigned, it can take some time for all affected systems (usually involving many different parties behind the scenes) get their databases updated.

The only option your ISP is likely to have for you is a "static IP address" feature which generally either costs extra or requires a business-level subscription, or both.  You will probably not have any "out of country" issues with a static IP, but it's unlikely to be a free option (I've seen pricing anywhere from a few dollars a month to hundreds of dollars a month for a static IP).

That's really odd, I sure hope they can get that straightened out for you soon.
