You should still have respect but the thing about it is that we all view respect differently.  I don't see it as a sign of disrespect at all.

I would never even thought of calling them by their first names but my youngest son used to call my husband by his first name when he was really little - about 2 years old.  No one knew why he did it.

When we were younger about 5 or 6 we called my Mom and Dad by their names, but my Grandmother didn't approve, so from that young age we were to call our parents Mom and Dad.  I don't think it wasn't disrespectful at the time because my Mom and Dad were young and I don't think it really mattered to them.

I never considered calling my parents anything but mom and dad.  My mom has passed, but I still address my father as "dad".  My father has been remarried for quite a while and I call my step-mom by her first name.  I was in college when they met/married, so being an "outsider" to the biological family, I see her more as a peer, as she had no input in how I was raised.   Perhaps had I been younger - single-digit age, I may have called her mom.

Both of my parents are gone from this earth and they would not have tolerated me calling them by their first names.  However, my oldest daughter did not respect her father for awhile, and during this period she referred to him by his first name (she was an adult also at this time).  As her father matured and they became closer (and he became a responsible grandfather), she began alternating between his name and "dad" and "father," with his first name being used less and less

No, I call my parents Mom and Dad.  I have never thought to call them by their first names.  It would seem disrespectful in my opinion.

Absolutely not. It's weird when people call their parents by their first names, honestly.

Goodness! I can't even imagine calling my parents by their first names. In fact, I'm 46 now and I still call my uncle, "uncle Colin". I just can't get out of the habit. For new friends, I call them by however they introduced themselves to me. For my kids teachers, I call them by however my son's call them... ie. Mrs Smith, Mr Woods.
