Books!
« on: November 08, 2014, 07:03:48 am »
Okay so as I have stated before I love to read along with my 19 year old(20 next month). We both read the same kind of books, Romance...Ie... Historical and regular long as it is a book of at least 300 pages. Don't give me a book of 150 or less because I would have it done in about 3 hours or so. We also like to read the paranormal books... Shape shifters, vampires, time travel. We have our fav. authors we like reading too.
But we just found a new one that we like very much so far. Our public library has books that are donated and are sold for .50- 2.00 or more depending on the condition. So I pulled a shape shifter romance book that looked interesting. When I opened it up I found it was a third book of a four book series. Typicially I don't like to read books that are part of a series without reading the one before it first. But this one flowed so well. I finished it in 3 1/2 days and it was almost 400 pages. (Busy week for me so I didn't have as much time to read as I would like.) I mailed it off to my daughter 2 days later since it was late Friday night that I finished. At the library we found the fourth book on the shelves to borrow so I got it and ordered the other two. Read the fourth book in two days and when we turned it back in they had gotten the second in from another library in the state so I got that one and started it. Then the first one came in the next day. So lets just say that as of last night I have read three books in just over a weeks time and started on the first one.
The books are by Christina Dodd and are the Darkness Chosen  series if any one likes that kind of book read them and let me know if you like them just like I did and do.

I like J.R.Ward her books are about vampires, they are good. Have you read those? I have never tried Christina Dodd but I see them at Goodwill a lot.

I'm not sure if I have. My daughter and I read a lot of different authors. But if you want some more good vamp books try Lynsay Sands and her Argeneau series. They are great!

Speaking of paranormal books, I just bought a book off Amazon that my daughter told me about.  It's called "Deliver Us From Evil," by "Ralph Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool."  It's about a New York City cop that investigates the supernatural.  All based on his investigations, so true story.  FYI, it's 352 pages.  Thought you might be interested.  :)

I've heard about the movie but haven't seen it yet. But in the past I have seen a movie first and then gone out to buy or borrow the book just to see how it compares.

I've read her as well. Actually when `Flowers in the Attic' first came out with the original cover. I think there was 5 of the series that I read. Including `My Sweet Adrina' (however). Now my 12 1/2 year old is reading them just like her big sister did.

Cassandra Clare has written several paranormal fiction novels. The first book in her Mortal Instruments series was actually made into a movie that came out in the late summer of 2013. That series takes place in modern time, but her Infernal Devices takes place in Victorian times and is an interesting steampunk prequel to the MI series. And it sounds like she has a Dark Artifices series that should be coming out in the next year or so.

I like historical novels, mysteries, espionage etc. but paranormal does nothing for me and I don't read them at all.

I don't really have anytime to read its sad but when i get the time i love those good books that you can just escape into and forget about the rest of the world. SO much better than a movie sometimes.

I think my daughter has some of the Mortal Instruments. If I remember correctly she got one of them free for the summer reading program at the library.

I don't read as much as I like to but enjoy a lot of different kinds of books.  I read a lot of non-fiction but enjoy science fiction as well.  Not all that big on the paranormal/vampire type stuff but I read a lot of James Rollins books and he and Rebecca Catrell have authored a series of books (The Order of the Sanguine series) with a vampire theme which I really like.
