eye exercises
« on: November 15, 2014, 06:51:07 am »
can improve your eyesight.

Jacob Liberman  has done numerous studies and helps children and adults understand the workings of the brain behind the eyeball. His study about light fascinates me.

I "used to" wear glasses.
I am glad I don't anymore. I want my eyes to stay strong, not get weaker wearing eyeglasses or contacts.

That's interesting you say that because as I get older I find myself relying on my eyeglasses less, such as the computer. I think I strained my eyes from always using my glasses.

I've been doing "eye yoga" for a while now. I can see better without my glasses than with them.

There is a video on youtube with Paul McCartney showing how. It looks strange, but it works. :)

I'm actually supposed to do specific eye movements to improve my balance (I have MS and suffer balance issues). I don't do them often enough. The eye is more than just vision, strange to think about.

Very interesting.  I think this is a very similar concept to Jack Lalanne's face exercises to keep your face/neck skin toned (meaning less need for creams and surgery).

I have both myopia and astigmatism - I'll seek if I can do these consistently enough to tell if there's any difference in my vision.

I did some quick searching about "eye yoga" - the concept makes sense, but I'd be wary of this being a "cure" for vision issues.  Also, be aware of the sites one uses as not all articles are written by people who have a background in ophthalmology.  Example - one site implied certain exercises could relieve/cure presbyopia - claiming this was far-sightedness when people reach their mid-40's.  Technically, far-sighteness is hyperopia.  Presbyopia is the inability to focus on near objects due to your lens drying out - the lens itself cannot move to accommodate focusing; whereas hyperopia is due to where the focal point appears related to your retina.  Hyperopia, I could see benefiting from these exercises, but I fail to see how exercises can prevent your lens from drying out.  That's why typically those symptoms appear for people sometime in their mid-40's.  It's an age thing.

I think maybe it can be done but if a persons eyesight is too bad to start with it would never work in my opinion

This topic catches my interest. I am wearing glasses and I am tired of them. I will search this and try it.

Thanks, I'll have to look for that video.  I've explored this topic.  It started with Dr Bates in the 30's or 40's.  Too bad it's not more commonly taught.  :glasses-nerdy:

You can also look for a book called "The Eyes Have It" by Earlyne Chaney.  She teaches the Bates method.
