snow in Buffalo
« on: November 22, 2014, 08:25:45 am »
I hope the residents there prepared their cupboards for hunkering down. Some went ahead and tried to plow, risking their lives and died. It's too bad those people who died didn't wait. Some circumstances are "bigger than we can handle ourselves.
When there is a heavy snow like that, it's better to wait until the city plows come around.Even when someone plows their property driveway and sidewalk, more accumulates and it remains impassable.

I think it is suppose to get warm this weekend and a lot of it will melt. Unfortunately it is going to put a lot of weight on the roofs.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the citizens of Buffalo.  May the snow melt, sunshine resume, and bring hope for recovery.

we get terrible snows each winter where i live and there are always several cases of people dying due to them shoveling.

That snow storm was insane. I heard there was about 5 feet of snow. Thats an inch taller than me.

I heard the 5 feet the first day, then they added 3 feet on to that.   That was unbelievable amount even for Buffalo.   They are known for getting a lot of snow, but this early in the season and so much.    So I am sure a lot of people were no really prepared.   But being in Buffalo maybe they are always ready for a day or two, but this is going on for so much longer.

Last I heard the average was 7 feet of snow in the area.  I'm sure with drifting some places were a little higher, others a little lower - but when you are talking that much snow, I don't think a foot or two one way or the other makes that much difference (much like the cold temperature - once it reaches a certain temperature it doesn't really matter - it's just cooooold).

I heard their new concern is massive flooding when things start melting.  Talking about adding insult to injury.  I hope those people can stay as safe as possible.
