I don't see issues getting gift cards to people to places they like. I should be grateful just to receive a gift, but I've gotten things at places that I can't find anything I like at the store, so I end up storing the the gift card indefinitely or using the credit for someone else.

I don't think there is anything wrong with giving gift cards for gifts. Hence, the name "gift card". Some people are just to picky and hard to find anything for. Also, like myself, there are things that I would really like to get but would never ask someone to spend that much money for. Receiving a gift card would help me get the item I want without breaking their bank and they have some part in purchasing the item I wanted. Another reason why I love gift cards is that they don't expire, well most don't expire so I can save them for when I want to use them.

It's a good option to not worry about specifics. Leave it up to the person recieving the gift card to purchase what they desire!

I honestly prefer gift cards (if someone is going to spend money on me anyway). That way I can get what I want to get instead of taking something I might not want or have to deal with exchanges. I bet that stores have a lot less hassle with returns/exchanges now too.

i love to give gift cards because it will force that person to actually treat themselves. if i was to just give them money, they'd probably use it on someone else or put it towards bills. I love receiving them as well!

Other than cash, I think gift cards make great gifts!

I send gift cards if I'm not able to see certain family at Christmas (or other celebrations).  The postage is cheaper than sending an actual gift.  Some people have everything & are just really hard to shop for but they always love gift cards!!

I see nothing wrong with giving gift cards.  If it was me, I'd prefer it.  Like you said, at least they can get exactly what they want.

Id personally love it, as sometimes people buy me things especially clothes that I would NEVER wear, then I feel bad saying I like it, or that Id never wear it

I don't see a problem with giving gift cards. My mom usually gets my husband and I some kind of gift card and I'm always appreciative because she knows what we like. It lets me know that she's thinking of us.

Gift cards are great, I love them. A lot of people go that route because they want to make sure that person is getting what they want. My dad is someone who is hard to shop for so gift cards are always ideal.

I like to give gift cards and get mine from a cash back site so then I earn cash back on my gifts too.  I try to get the gift cards at the stores that the recipients like to shop so then they can get what they want.

I like to recieve gift cards as gifts myself.

As said earlier it depends on the person, I know I don't mind a gift card provided I go there. On top of that, getting something that they don't want can be a real problem. So gift cards are nice.
