Do you let your child/children believe in santa or do you let them grow up knowing it's make believe?

Doesn't apply because I don't have children, but if I did, I would tell them the truth. That's what my parents did with me and I'm glad. I don't see the point in keeping up that kind of facade. The kids will thoroughly enjoy Christmas regardless! Does them more harm than good to tell them a lie. :-X :-\ :present:

If I had children yes I would let them believe in Santa up until they were old enough to know better, theres nothing wrong with a little Christmas magic :)

My child only briefly believed in Santa, but her friends spoiled it all when she got older.  However, I still stuck her stockings along with other family members with gifts.  I don't think she will ever say no to this.

davidh1421 comment on stockings reminded of me Christmas at my grandmother's house.  I am the oldest of her fifteen grandchildren, and as we came along she made a stocking for each of us to hang on her mantelpiece.  Each of our stockings had our first name on it, and my grandfather complained about not having his own stocking, so--another stocking labeled, "Granddaddy"  appeared on the mantle.  That was my granddaddy--just another one of the kids!

I don't have kids but I once WAS a kid and I have resented the Santa Claus lie all my life. I resent that that my parents told me this lie and expected me to believe in it and 'be good b/c Santa Claus is coming to town." Then when I learned the truth, they expected me to just let it go but be sure to continue to believe in this mythical character called God that loved me whether I was good or bad but was going to burn me in hell if I didn't believe in him even though I couldn't see him or hear him or even 'feel' him like a good little Christian.  I despise the whole concept of lying to your children and then expecting them to know the difference in truth and lies..

I still let them believe that there is a Santa Clause out there, one day I will have to slowly pass on the truth...

I let both my girls believe in Santa until they started questioning.  I never told them there was no Santa, but their friends did.

I'm pretty sure they'll figure it out for themselves... maybe when they see all those MADE IN CHINA labels.

My parents didn't do the who Santa thing, we always knew it was fake.  I haven't decided what I'm going to do with my kids yet, they're still young.  I grew up without believing in it, I really don't see the need to tell them Santa is real, because he isn't, I'd rather focus on what Christmas is really about.

Even though I identify as Christian, I can see your point and am glad you brought this up. Parents are superb at sending mixed messages and confusing their kids, aren't they?

I think we should designate a age to tell the kid the truth!

What are you talking about, I STILL BELIEVE in Santa Clause!    My children believe  and so do our grandkids.  We have  lot of fun with it.    I don't know why people want to make kids grow up so fast.  They only get to be little for a short time and then an adult forever.
