I'm sure she'd love a surprise under the tree if you decided to give her the gift she picked out now. I don't think there is anything wrong with someone picking out their own gift and using it either. It depends on what works for the two of you.

Yes, let her pick it out and use it if she wants.  It would be extra nice of you if you had another little something under the tree to surprise her with on Christmas morning.  I always do my own shopping for my husband and give him the receipt to reimburse me.  That way he buys the perfect gift, exactly what I want, the right color, size, etc.
