Christmas memories
« on: December 10, 2014, 08:50:51 am »
I remember celebrating Christmas as a child and going to my both my grandparents' houses, having big parties with all  of us cousins. Now, we are all spread out across the country. My cousins have their own families. My sisters have their own families that are spread out too.
Each of my grandparents had their own way of expressing their love for the season.

The important thing to hold onto is the diamond of a star in the sky that led to Jesus' manger.

That happens.  :( People move away to do their own thing and the get-togethers get smaller. I don't have very many Christmas memories (not something I've celebrated in years) but... maybe one day I'll break out some eggnog with my significant other and swap a gift. We'll see.  ;)

We would have only the tree lights on and turn on Jean Audrey's Rudoph the Red Nosed Reigndeer and run in circles as fast as we could so we'd have to tip our bodies until we'd fall in! So fun!

Oh so many memories some bad, a lot good. When we were children and went to grandma's what a joy. She had 10 children and all lived. we had so many cousins to play with. although the older ones were kinda  bossy. But were some of the first to pick us up and love on us if we got a boo-boo.  Oh my so many have gone on before us. But we were all loved.

I didn't have that wonderful experience as you, but I remember waking up xmas morning and seeing the presents under the tree and couldn't wait to open them.

I remember as a child going to different family members houses and getting gifts. Also gifts from the neighbors we were close to. Now days my son barely gets any gifts from family. All year long he points out things he would like to have. I write them down and through out the year I pick and get some for his birthday and for Christmas.

I remember we use to play a lot of games on Christmas that the whole family played like Family Feud or Jeopardy.

I will never forget  when I knew there was not a Santa clause.  The town hired a man to be Santa Clause and I crawled up on his lap and could smell a scent that smelled like Grandpa, so I inched closer and closer to get a  good smell and I knew it was Grandpa. He had the best smell . To this day I miss his smell and my grandma too. Well all of my family that have gone on before me.

I remember when my brother and I were kids and still believed in Santa Claus, every Christmas Eve my dad would take us for a ride to see the Christmas lights.  When we returned home, we discovered Santa had been at our house and brought us our gifts.  We were so excited.  We never questioned why mom never went with us on the ride, but years later we realized she had to stay home and be Santa.  Those were fun and carefree times.

I really miss going going to my grandparents house on Christmas eve. My father, step mom and I were reminiscing about those days when my husband and I went there for Christmas. I was so close to both of them and miss them everyday.
