Bad gifting?
« on: December 14, 2014, 04:47:21 pm »
Are you dreading a bad gift? Do you have a bad gifter in the family?

My husband is terrible at picking things out for me and I am not hard to shop for! I even go to extra lengths to make it easy on him, but he still ends up getting things that aren't me. Several years in a row I have received fishing poles. He fishes. I do not. And when I do, I use one pole, I do not need a new one at christmas every year. sigh.

This year I suggested we just give to needy children rather than worry about giving each other stuff we don't need.

I dread when my mom gets clothing for me. I appreciate that shes thinking of me but it is best I buy clothing on my own. I've gotten some stuff I never wore but didn't want to hurt her feelings so I didn't comment about it.

I guess he is REALLY wanting you to share in one of his favorite activities.  At least he wants you with him~try out those poles with enthusiasm~(then buy him those symphony concert tickets for his gift) hee hee

LOL tickets to a play would be excellent pay back, i mean thoughtful gift.

Yes, he does like it when I go fishing with him. I just dont need umpteen poles and 500 lures and certainly dont want them as gifts, lol!

Uhm no. But I worry that *I'm* the bad gifter xD
I never know what to get people. And I always tell people not to give me anything. I'm not really much of a gift type of person. I appreciate the sentiment behind it, but I'd really rather not, it's so uncomfortable for me (receiving and giving).
I always have to ask pretty much everyone around the person I'm getting a gift for for suggestions, that's how terrible I am. I really should just use gift cards more, but then I worry that that won't be seen as being "thoughtful" enough xD

Sorry to hear that. Maybe next time just ask for a gift card or take him when you are shopping, and let him pay for the thing you like, that will be the best gift ever  :present: Happy Holidays everyone  :)

My family is usually good at knowing what I would like, but sometimes my mom gives me some clothes that I'll never wear.  Then sometimes she gives me something that I love, so who knows what she has in store this year.  :)

LOL I was married for 34 years but my husband always knew jewelry was the never fail gift but most years we didn't have money to do anything but get our boys something.  The needy children idea is awesome because really once we get to be adults giving to others seems like what we should be doing if we can afford it anyway and Christmas is really for children in my opinion.  Good luck whatever you guys decide and have a Merry Christmas.  :present:

We buy ourselves a joint gift, usually something for the house.

I've done that ticket gift to a play, works out well...  for me :)

The very most lousy gift I ever received from my husband was a blender when 3 of my friends received diamond earrings from their friends.  All 3 of them phoned me all excited and I had a blender to be excited about - not.

I think sometimes people just don't know what to get each other.  I think the fact that they want to give you a gift at all is gift enough in itself.

Same here. I am very picky about my clothes. This year I made a wishlist on Amazon and said any of those items will be great.

I hope I can act surprised on Christmas when I open my gift. I noticed an item missing from my mothers' wish list and was going to ask her about it since it was something she wanted. I almost bought it but picked another item. Before I could ask her she told me she purchased my gift and it was from her wish list.

*crickets*

I haven't mentioned seeing the item missing from the list.

Money is a universal gift... I don't feel bad giving money as a gift because most of my friends/family do the same thing.. If there is something someone wants, I would get it.. If not go default and gift money or giftcards
