Mine would do the same except that he'd tap me on my forehead. I once woke before he started tapping and opened my eyes to slits so he still thought I was sleeping... I saw that he crept up to my pillow, and then tentatively reached out his paw like he was afraid of waking me too suddenly. LOL. Unfortunately with my new dog, he hasn't woken me in quite awhile...

My Coco Chanel will sit next to me on the bed staring at me for a while.  When she sees that's not workin' out too well, she'll lick my eyebrows, LOL!  That'll do it!

No cats but my dogs sleep with my sister.  They will scratch her arm until she finally wakes up.

I used to have a cat years ago and he would just come close to my face and rub my cheek with his face. My daughter's cat comes right next to her and meows until she wakes up. The cat does this at precisely 6 a.m. every morning even on mornings when my daughter prefers to sleep in, like on the weekends.

I've owned cats almost all my life...My current cat is the only one that never tried to wake my up. All my other cats would stick their nose under the cover if my head was under, they would pat my face with their paw or lick my eyelids but this cat? Not so much. She often sleeps at the foot of my bed (or under) though.

At times I wake up first and see him snuggled at the foot of my bed or my son's bed. At times a soft paw to the face or a wet nose touch lol.

Luckily my two cats do not wake me up ... they are usually sound asleep when I get up

What cat?  I would never allow an animal to wake me up in the morning. That's too delicate a process to endure such interference. 

Don't get me wrong. I love animals. But they don't need to be waking me up. Ugh. 

And since right now I am animal-less, I am only conjecturing.

I have 3 cats and none of them wake me up.  The youngest (1.5 mos) has always slept on a pillow right next to mine and he sleeps until my cell phone alarm goes off.  There's been mornings when he's grabbed the beeping phone and tried to frantically get it to shut-up.....he's so not a morning person.     The other two cats sleep in their beds until they hear the alarm...  I'm blessed.
