Fruit Cake! Have you ever actually tried it?

I don't think I've ever actually tried fruit cake. I've heard the jokes about it of course. And looking at the recipes, well, I'm not really an alcohol drinker, so didn't appeal that much to me in the past.
But I found a fruit cake recipe yesterday - literally cake with dried fruit in it - so I baked one  I'll report tonight how it tasted. Crossing my fingers I didn't mess it up.
 
Anyone have any fruit cake recipes they enjoy? Or horror stories Feel free to post jokes or whatever too. lol

All Fruit cake is not created equal ...lol.  I think it probably gets a bad wrap because of some cheap badly produce store garbage.  I recall several years ago someone gave us a gift box a 3 different types of fruit cakes (I remember on with Macadamia nuts) I cannot remember the brand (but it was something like Harry & David).  They were amazing.  I am sure homemade would be quite good as well.

When I was growing up, my mom made fruitcake every year. She tried out different recipes. Some of them were really good. Except for the refrigerator fruit cake. Even after almost 50 years, I remember, it was nasty!

I've had some great fruitcake.  I've also had horrible fruitcake.  It's not something easy to make.

Many people don't like fruit cake.  I tried and enjoyed my Granny's fruit cake.  Merry Christmas!

I have always loved fruitcake myself!

i like it but it is to sweet for me so i would rather just have a big slice of pumpkin pie or apple

I love fruit cake.  My mother and my grandmother made some really good ones, and my father-in-law, a baker, made the best.  As said before, some are good and some not so good.  Many you buy at the store are dry.  Also, you don't have to put alcohol in them.
