Decided It was dumb and not worth it

I decided to refrain from any more house parties and still keep drinking responsibly whenever I do drink.  Thanks for your replies they were helpful!

Well, I found this website for an attorney that explains the underage drinking laws in the State of Pennsylvania.  It really doesn't mention anything about a person OF AGE drinking at a party where there are UNDERAGED people, but it does explain a LOT about the law in your State and if you're caught underage drinking.  You might want to take a look at it.  I would assume (but don't take my word for it), that if it's not YOUR party and not at YOUR house, you have no responsibility should the police wind up showing to the party.  As long as you can prove you're of age to drink, it's not YOU who has to worry about the consequences, but the person who's throwing the party.  I've got another suggestion.  Why not call your local police station and ask the question?  I'm sure they know the law and you'll find the answer you're looking for.  Here's the website I told you about:

I would suggest to talk with your local police department. because different states have different laws put into place

i wouldn't go to someones house and drink with under aged people because you can get into trouble for that especially if they are drinking and get drunk

If it's not your house, and you did not give them the alcohol, your fine.

In the state I live in a 21 year old cannot provide liquor to anyone under the age of 21. It is the law. And you can be fined and or go to jail or both. So why put yourself in that position  .

Hi everyone!  Just had a quick question if you have time to read.  I am now 21, so it has been about a year since I've actually gone to a house party.  I would normally elect to go to a bar or something like that if I was drinking.  Last night me and a friend were invited to a house party with kids in the age range 18-22, maybe even possibly a couple 17 year olds but I wouldn't be certain because I didn't know most of the people there!  We had a really good time and they said they have parties every couple of months.  My question is, if me and my friend were to go back and something happened with Cops or legally or anything, could we be pinned for being at a party with underage kids drinking there for furnishing/presence of minors drinking alcohol, or a violation like that, even though we did not provide any alcohol to a minor?  The reason I ask is because I have already dealt with a legal issue before and if something stupid like that happened it would be a huge setback for my life right now (legally, record, money, etc, etc)  And I had fun at the party and would go again, but it would not be worth the risk of taking on those kind of penalties!  Thanks for your advice or personal similar experiences I appreciate it a lot!  I live in PA btw if that makes a difference! :peace:

Basically why would you put yourself in that position. There are many sides to that question. Is it their house or their parents house, your parents present, who brought the alcohol that was there. So many reasons not to go to that type of party.

Worse than being blamed for the underage drinking, you could be risking a false sexual charge of some kind with all that alcohol flowing and end up in jail for a long time.

Well, you would just be one of them. If most of those so called kids are 18-22 years old, they are in your age bracket. So the one having the party and their parents would be ultimately responsible. But you could also get in some kind of trouble. Best thing to do, go have fun, and if you see things getting out of hand, just leave.

Going to a party does not mean you should drink with the other party goers.  18 years is too young to drink but be safe.

It may be different in different states now but it used to be that the older ones at those parties were held accountable for underage drinkers. If it's not your party a lawyer prob could get you off from that but it's a legal hassle and is it really worth having to go through that just for going to a party?

Going to the same party is not the same thing as providing someone underage with alcohol.  There is nothing illegal about going to the same party as underage drinking.

That type of party is pretty much any college party. There's nothing illegal about going to one of those parties, so there really is no reason to avoid it if you really want to go.

Bad association spoil useful habits.
