Reading Glasses
« on: January 26, 2015, 06:14:30 am »
I recently broke down and got new bifocals. I had quit wearing them several years ago when I kept walking off things and missing steps.  I figured I hurt myself eventually.  Well, night vision got bad enough I thought I'd better re-up on them. However, they are no good for my close work and reading. Dang, I spent $250 on them! I have had them adjusted twice but still they don't work well.  SO, here I am, back to my readers.  I just collected all my scattered pairs.  I have 7 pairs of readers in the house....how many do those of you who use them have.  I bet it isn't just me who has a bunch.

I don't understand that. Bifocals are supposed to help you with your close work and reading.
At least that's what they told me when I got them.
I find myself taking my glasses off to read because they don't help. Even after adjustment, they're pretty much just in my way.

I have no idea how many readers I have.  Probably around 20, if I had to guess,

Pinhole glasses help with reading once you get used to them. They do no harm to your eyes at all.
Read one or more of Jacob Liberman's books. He is a great resource and has experience we can all learn from.  He has an abundance of knowledge about the eyes.

I could never get used to bifocals.  They were impossible with computers.  I am much happier with reading glasses.  I have spent $200+ for prescription glasses, and they never worked right.  I have at least 10-12 reading glasses right now.  I misplace them a lot, but I usually end up finding them again.  And they are much cheaper.  I have ordered them online for $10-15 for a pack of 9-10.

I actually had a pair or two but I don't need them anymore.  First off, I HATE glasses, ANY kind of glasses, LOL.  I wear contact lenses.  When it got bad enough, I went to the eye doctor and he put me in "monovision."  That being one bi-focal contact lense and one regular contact lense.  Now, I'm really happy!  I can see distance and I can read small lettering on bottles, jar, etc.  Of course, it's not "perfect," but at least I can see better than I did before and I don't have to carry around a stupid pair of reading glasses, either.

I'm not there yet, but I know it's coming within the next few years for me.  I'm pretty sure I'll start with "cheap" readers vs springing for bifocals or progressive lenses.  My vision for the computer and distance are fine with my contacts, just starting to get hard reading the tiny print on vitamin labels, particularly in dim light.  When I have good lighting, not nearly as bad.

I have at least four or five pairs of readers in different areas of the house just in case I don't have my prescription glasses handy.   :)

I have worn bifocals for years.

The trick to walking down stairs when you have bifocals is don't look at your feet.  Your feet know where they are going without you looking at them.
