I think sometimes doctors just throw out "it's eczema" no matter what it might really be. It took many different appointments for a doctor to finally tell me what one of my daughters actually has. My youngest has eczema, but my older one (who is 11 1/2) has something totally different.

It's strange that they could tell you you have anything when there is nothing visual. o.O

I had eczema for 10+ years (tanning, actually, finally got rid of the last of it a few years ago), and what you have sounds more like a heat rash, especially if it's popping up when you're hot or sweaty. However, since you asked about it on your thighs, I did have a patch of eczema on one of my inner thighs for a while. If skin is there, eczema can be there is a general rule of thumb.

But if you don't have a rash or irritated bumps or blisters, it really doesn't sound like eczema. If it is a heat rash, just wash the area with a cool, damp cloth, and let it air dry (don't put clothes on over that area until it's COMPLETELY dry). Don't let moisture get trapped on your skin. You should see improvement pretty quickly.

Our youngest granddaughter has exema pretty bad but she does have the bumps and redness with it.  Is your doctor a dermatologist?  If not, I would recommend seeing a specialist to find out for sure.  Good luck.

I have eczema in my ears. I have yet to nail down what causes it, but the doctor rx'd me triamcinolone acetonide cream (corticosteroid). Works great, but will thin the skin, so I use it sparingly when it it's really itchy and irritated.  My brother had the same thing, but on his eyelids and his doctor rx'd him a less potent corticosteroid because, again, it'll thin the skin if you use it too much. Glad you got a cream for it :)

No lab test is needed to identify atopic dermatitis (eczema). Your doctor will likely make a diagnosis by examining your skin and reviewing your medical history. He or she may also use patch testing or other tests to rule out other skin diseases or identify conditions that accompany your eczema.

I have a history of eczema.  It was so bad when I was a child that I would have *bleep* sheets in the morning from scratching off scabs.  My mother bathed with dial soap and lathered me with keri lotion nightly.  When I was 13 years old she took me to a dermatologist.  He told me I was allergic to lanolin.  An oil that comes from sheep's wool. He prescribed a thick brown smear of sorts that smelled like tar.  I was to apply it several times a day.  He only had 1 refill on it.  Said when that was gone to use cortisone cream. As it turns out dial and keri were horrible products to use on my dry skin.  I've had break outs now and again... nothing nearly as bad as what I'd had back then.  I just use cortisone cream (not gel) a couple of days and it clears up.  Stay clear of fleece... = wool.
