What are some of your ideas on cutting corners?
« on: February 05, 2015, 07:55:59 pm »
Also known as saving money! So many of us head out and think that we need to go out and find second jobs in order to make ends meet. I am guilty of the same as I work two full time jobs and a third part time job in addition to my personal money making pleasures like fusion cash. Someone just posted about how they save money going to the clearance rack at Kroger's which I am also notorious for doing. I'll start with my idea. I promised my two children that they can have their own cars when they turn sixteen. My son gets his license in three weeks. My day time job is five miles away so I am picking up a used mini scooter for thirteen hundred dollars and taking that to and from work. It doesn't need to be registered or insured, being bought from a private party so there will be no taxes on the transaction, the scooter get 85 mpg which should last sixteen days...and I will try and ride my bike on casual Fridays (the other four days of the week. I will be spending less than four dollars a month on transportation.

I live as simply as possible and I keep my bills to a minimum.  That way I have money I can save each month.  I use coupons whenever possible and when I shop online I "click through" a website to get rebates.  I also keep myself busy doing things like cleaning my home, earning online and walking so many of the things I do, on a daily basis, are free.  Then I'm not tempted to be spending.

Have a great day!

I always shop clearance racks, use coupons and shop thrift stores. I try to find things to go that are free, as I have  6 kids at home. We go to the park a lot, have picnics and play ball at home.

people dont realize how much money they actually waste .  we take our time and measure things out  make our own cat scratching posts  use the right size pans when cooking etc with a bit of looking on the internet you can find many useful ways to cut back  but like in my situation its not quite enough.  but i know that we are not just wasting money i regualarly  get in computer and look for ways to save , fix, and reuse etc

I am trying to make sure that our kids switch the lights off when they leave a room, we use reusable liquid soap dispensers as it's cheaper to  buy liquid soap in bulk that in single bottles, I've made a cat bed for our cat rather than buying one, I plant as many seeds in our veggie garden as our garden will allow, we use lower wattage light bulbs and I have turned my home thermostat down to the lowest in winter it has ever been. I re-use grocery store plastic carrier bags as bin liners, I try to make all my own dinners, I clip coupons, compare weights and values of produce and when something goes on sale, I buy bulk and freeze it.

I use a lot of coupons, buy store brands if good, cook almost all meals at home, buy a lot in bulk, (meats and then split them up and wrap and put in the freezer. We do not use the most expensive cuts of meat any more, Use the crock pot a lot. I buy a lot of veggies at a distribution center here in town. Like I may pay .50cents for a  couple of cucumbers, 25cents for an onion. All of the veggies are way cheaper then our store and fresher. I bought a head of cauliflower for a dollar and at the  store the same size came to $2.39. Savings are great. Of course they may not have all of what I want but I adjust and use what they have.

It is all about priorities.  There is so many places that people can cut back on spending that they don't ever consider.  People complain about money when they have two dogs and a ton of tv channels.  Priorities...

I bring my lunch everyday to work which saves quite a bit of money over time. I also avoid toll roads whenever possible.

packing lunches for work, cooking from scratch, mystery shopping when going out to eat that way we still get date nights but i get reimbursed for all my meals and some movie theaters, lots of online survey sites, and printing coupons and cutting coupons before grocery shopping. Also meal planning for the week and sticking to a list when grocery shopping.

Looking at flyers a lot more, and look for discounted items:  I tend to buy meat at 30% when they're reaching their best before date and store in the freezer.

I am always looking for ways to save money. I always recycle aluminum and I scrap metal for extra cash.
