job problems
« on: March 17, 2015, 07:32:16 am »
my cousins and one of their wives might lose their jobs soon.
one of these cousins has already held a few jobs in her married life.
businesses are trimming and merging.
it seems like, no matter what the era or decade we are in, there is no job security.
The Shark Tank show has a lot of people starting their own businesses based on a project they started or thought of. I admire their fortitude.

Yeah, gone are the days when someone works in the same job for 30 years until they retire. I used to work in recruitment many years ago and even then, people were generally only staying in jobs around 2 years, and then they moved on to other things. Nobody "settles" any more and the minimum expectations from an employer is that their workers are ambitious, hardworking and committed.

every job place has its problems.  I worked at my last job for 18 years till they closed jor store,,  was lucky enough to have enough years in there I could retire from the place.    we had many problems there but I was bound and determined to stick it out.  and I did

I recently got a new job and the work is ok since I have experience in it but the people who run it, a small family business, simply don't care about keeping a clean, safe, organized warehouse.  They want everything done fast and then you wander around for 3 hours a day looking for things to do instead of taking time to do things right ::)  They are also dirty and unsanitary plus I am subjected to profanity nearly every day.  There are no benefits and we only work 7.5 hrs. a day. :bad:  Needless to say I am looking for other jobs.

I have had several different jobs over the years, the last one for over 25 years.  Then the company went bankrupt, they took all of the retirement down with them.  The bankruptcy lawyers told us we would probably never seen any of the almost 1 million dollars my husband and I had there.  Plus a lot of other people lost out too.  We are too young to retire, especially with our retirement savings gone.  we put our retirement savings from other jobs into here, because we though it was so secure.   And like some of you had said over 55 it is really tough to secure a new job.  They want youth instead of experience.  Seems like when I started out they wanted experience over youth!    LOL  Lately it seems I just cannot win!!!!!!!   [color]

There is no job security anymore. And, yes...many people are starting their own business to generate some income. If you find some profitable, go for it!

I'm blessed to have a job doing what I love & that allows me to be my own boss....there is nothing better than that.  However,  there are things happening inside the business that is really stressing me out,  so that I been wondering if it's worth it every single day.

I know there's no perfect job anywhere and I've never had "job security" even when working for a large factory.  I think one should be grateful for what they have and try to make the most of what they have and always be ready to seize the next opportunity.

Jobs are hard to come by these days.  And then if you have a job to avoid the having of offer insurance they want to give you 10 hours a week and call that a job.  You cannot live on 10 hours a week.  And most places do not want to work with another schedule.

I swear the next person who says "start your own business"  is going to get hit.  It's not that easy to just start a business.  And the shark tank doesn't always tell the whole story.  They show a couple of people who make it.  They don't mention the ones who lost everything.  And you have to have a product that people want to buy.

You have over a million dollars saved in retirement funds?  And it was invested in this company?  That does not even make sense.  First, This is the first time I have ever heard anyone say they had even close to a million dollars in retirement savings.  Take that money and don't work.  Second, why would you not put that kind of money into your own bank account where you control it and not somebody else.  But even banks are not secure any more.  There is one in my local town that is fixing to go under.  Personally, after the way they have done people - I will go laugh in their faces when it happens.  And it will happen.

It seems to be the state of our country now. Everyone is in fear of losing their job, lost it, or in a never-ending search for a good paying job. That is where I am. I have tried 2 part-time jobs. They don't have workable schedules. So that means I keep one and still look for more. The problem is there is not much choice. Too much competition. What has happened to our job market? BMaston12
