I always use WAY less detergent than the manufacturer calls for. You can use half and save a lot that way. Always. For stains, if you want to buy something separately, a Fels Naptha bar is the best thing ever, but it's kind of hard to find sometimes. Hydrogen peroxide works on some stains, especially blood. Apply to blood stain (the fresher the stain, the better), let if fizz (fun to watch), rinse and then wash it as usual.

  Your own saliva (I know, yuk) is a wonderful stain remover. If I could bottle it and sell it, I would. Supply and demand would be a problem.

If, on the other hand, you put whatever detergent you choose (I personally use All liquid) on your stain, let it sit a few, and then soak it for an hour or so before you wash it, that will get out most stains. It also helps to put some baking soda in the water as well because that will soften the water and help the detergent to work. Oh, and don't forget to attack stains as soon as possible (meaning immediately, even if you just dab some water on it). The longer stains sit, the harder they are to remove.

Just an added comment for you to ponder. If you wash something and the stain you were trying to remove is not yet gone, don't dry it, especially in the dryer.  That will REALLY set your stain in, possibly forever.  Instead, treat the stain again first and rewash it.

I get Xtra. It's like $1.99 for a bottle at Walmart, and it does the job pretty good. They have a couple different scents, and it usually lasts me about a month or two.

I prefer tide i can usually find coupons for it. For stains however i prefer baking soda it works well before i wash the cloths.

Noone can afford Tide unless you have millions.I buy whatever Cvs has on sale and they all work.With cpns sometimes

I've always used "Spray & Wash" or "Shout"....spray it on & rub it in and let it sit a few minutes.  Hydrogen Peroxide is best for blood.  It depends on what kind of stain it is, to best get it out because some stains come out best in hot water & some using cold.

Once a stained item has spent time in a dryer....those stains are nearly impossible to get out because the heat "sets" them.

I would google "best treatment for whatever stain it is"....and then you should be able to find best options.

*I used to use the laundromat and spent so much money there.  A few months ago, I got a "breathing mobile washer" to do most of the lightweight laundry at home.  I just found instructions for making a liquid laundry soap that ends up costing .01 a load, & will be making that today.

 If that works, and laundry is done in cold water....I don't have a water bill so I would have just cut my laundry budget down to .01 cent a load.   Amazing (and sickens me that I didn't discover this sooner.)

i use arm & hammer with oxi clean and i love it my clothes smell so fresh and clean ! and the giant jug is only 7.96 at our walmart --

I go to the laundromat once every 2 weeks. For my stained items I have a plastic tub that I make a water and oxy clean solution and soak over night. Stains are gone, and cuts down time in the landromat

So i live in basement any suggetions to prevent mildew my bathroom dont have a window so dark and damp most of time
