I had been using Windows XP for years. Last August I got a new laptop and Windows 8 is the OS. I've never used Windows 7 so I can't compare 8 to 7 but I haven't had any problems with 8. I don't really use the apps that come with it except for Netflix.

I have windows 8, wonderful OS, only issue is that it does not have a start button. But classic Shell/Classic Start menu creates a start menu and removes that issue. In one sense it cripples most people from fully utilizing win 8, while on the other hand it helps others to adjust and get things done a bit faster.

I don't have window 8.1 but my friends all do.  They said it not good, but I've never try them so have no clues.

I'm looking for a used laptop online just so I can use windows 7 instead of 8!

My son had to do the same thing. He needed windows 7 for his work programs, because windows 8 was not compatible with the work programs. He actually found a laptop with windows 7 on amazon. Or you could also go to a store and request one with windows 7. But its going to cost more. That's how we started our search for windows 7.

The problem is most of the Windows 8 computers for sale today won't run Windows 7 because none of the drivers will work. I actually like Windows 8.1, or I would try running Linux on one. You can create a Live DVD and try it without installing it.

I use 8.1 with classic shell. It is very usable after installing it. I say it's just as good as windows 7 after that

My wife bought me  a new Laptop I am using right now since Christmas and I don't know what operating system that I have on except I am using Google Chrome instead of Firefox from my old laptop. Sometimes my computer is downloading things when I shut down for the night and It automatically doing stuff that I am not aware of. So I am not sure If I am using window 7 or 8.

Oh, heck. I'm still using Windows XP 2002. The last job I had didn't use anything above Word 2003 (job=2010).

I would love to upgrade but I can't afford a new computer. My computer is a 2005 model and never had a problem with it except the power supply blew one day. So did my older one from 1997 and I would love to get it fixed. My son gave me a newer model last year but I can't change the screen size. It was set up to watch TV on a 50" flat screen and my monitor is a 19". So, it sits here.

Had problems in the beginning when I purchased a new laptop some months ago, but now have pretty much adjusted, but I still miss Windows 7!

You can get a power supply on Ebay cheap and it's pretty easy to replace it yourself. Just search for one that is for the make and model computer you have. Same with changing the screen size. Get on YouTube and search for change screen size on windows.

Last week I bought a new laptop so I was introduced to the good, bad and ugly aspects of Windows 8.

I always enjoy having a new PC and I learn quickly; however, I discovered that Windows 8 is a completely different animal than Win 7.

After doing some research I learned that there were plenty of other people who are less than pleased with that OS.  I also learned that there is a free download of something called Classic Shell so you can make your PC behave like it did with Win 7.

If you're using Win 8 and you're happy with it....

Sweet.

If not...it might be nice to know you have another option.  http://www.classicshell.net/

Are you happy with your operating system?  What are you using and why?

I'm using Windows 8.1.  I went from XP to 8, then upgraded to 8.1.  I'm really loving Win 8.1, and I can't wait for the release of Windows 10 come this summer.  Win 10 will be a FREE upgrade (within the first year) to anyone using Win 7/8.  I'm really excited about it.
