Happy with Windows 8?
« on: April 01, 2015, 01:34:56 am »
Last week I bought a new laptop so I was introduced to the good, bad and ugly aspects of Windows 8.

I always enjoy having a new PC and I learn quickly; however, I discovered that Windows 8 is a completely different animal than Win 7.

After doing some research I learned that there were plenty of other people who are less than pleased with that OS.  I also learned that there is a free download of something called Classic Shell so you can make your PC behave like it did with Win 7.

If you're using Win 8 and you're happy with it....

Sweet.

If not...it might be nice to know you have another option.  http://www.classicshell.net/

Are you happy with your operating system?  What are you using and why?

I have Windows XP on my desktop computer, Linux on the one I use most on the Internet and Windows 8.1 on my laptop as well as Android 4 on the All In One we keep in the kitchen, but bottom line is they are all just an operating system to run programs I use, so one is as good as the other in my estimation.

What I like most about Windows 8.1 is that I can do a search for any program I want to run in a second or two and not need to look through a bunch of folders. My XP has search too, but it takes a lot longer.

Windows 8.1 with classic shell installed makes it just as good if not better than windows 7.

Although Classic Shell is an awesome program.. I hate installing third party program in my Windows to regain the functionality of previous OS systems... Microsoft really dropped the ball on Windows 8... Hopefully Windows 10 is a good Windows OS like Windows XP

The first time I used my new laptop with windows 8 its so difficult but after a month of figuring  it out, now am enjoying using it. Learn more and just download the apps that you want to use and delete it if not needed anymore.

it's ok after you use it for awhile but liked earlier versions better.

When I built my computer back in December, I thought I was going to hate Windows 8.1. But, a friend of mine told me about classic shell. So glad I don't have to deal with the silly start screen all of the time. Overall, Windows 8.1 isn't all that bad once you get used to it.

I have Windows 8.1 on my laptop and have no problem with it. It's an operating system that has one primary purpose and that is to run programs, which it does just fine.

I have a Desktop with Vista and Laptop with Windows 7.  At the time I got the desktop the change from XP was weird (and I was still using xp at work) and I wasn't thrilled (and boy the chatter about Vista wasn't good) but I kept at it and got comfortable with it and never had any real issue with it.  I got my laptop a few years later and other then physical differences (processor/memory etc) performance wise I forget now that there is a difference between the two as I have them setup very similarly.  My dad has laptop with windows 8 on it and I dont see any functional difference in it.

I wasn't at first but now I am. I just use the desktop and stay away from the page with all the apps. I remember when I got my current laptop a little over a year ago I could not stand it. But like most things you eventually get used to it. I also had to change a lot of settings. Every time I would use the touchpad the page would shrink, zoom in, zoom out, etc. That drove me nuts but luckily you can fix all that.
