That could be but I thought he was on the good side still at that point.  Maybe he used it and didn't even know he was using the dark force.

I think that was the point about this theory... Luke at that point in the story just started to understand what the force itself was, but didn't truly understand all of the nuances when using it. It wasn't until after working with Yoda that he understood more the difference between the two sides of the force. Moreover the dark-side is more about fear, anger, and using the force for destructive purposes. As this theory goes, he was under a lot of emotional stress caused by fear and anger over what the Empire was doing, and when he finally used the force, it was for a destructive purpose. A Jedi master of the light-side of the force may have used the force in a less destructive way in stopping the Empire like somehow breaking the planet-destroying gun / laser without destroying the entire death star leading to the deaths of probably millions of people.

Nah. Obi Wan told him to use the Force.It was in protection of Yavin and many other planets that would be destroyed if he did not blow the Death Star up. There wasn't any Anger or aggression involved. Luke used the Force in preservation of life.

Yeah I think it was more about the freeing concentration he had to have to pinpoint the vital hit on the death star with obi wans spirit's guidance.  God I am a nerd .  Can't wait for the movie coming out though!  it's so cool to have the original characters back!!!

It is an interesting theory. But I always took him as being calm when he actually shot it. Like he heard Obi-Wan, kind of took a breath and calmed himself a little, refocused and made the shot. I saw sadness in him sure, but I never got any anger.
