I usually pack whatever I need, then a few extra clothing items just in case.  I don't feel like I over pack, though.

Despite my experience traveling in general, I'm a poor packer and I've been critized by my travel companions. I don't pack the kitchen sink, but I'm close to it. I always seem to run out of room in my suitcase even on short trips. Maybe I take too many precautions, but I always feel the need to carry a lot of things as contingencies on my trip.

I try to pack as light as I can and coordinate my outfits to get different looks for less clothes.  I like to take just one rollaboard and usually a backpack.  I don't like to lug around a lot of luggage.

We just take the stuff that we need on a daily basis like personal hygiene, clothes, and shoes. If we staying at a hotel then we don't need pillows and all that stuff. When we stay at  relatives then we take our pillows and stuff. We never take food just drinks and stop along the way for quick eat and go.

Traveling lightly is a MUST for me.  I  take a pillow/blanket always, I know too much about hotels.  I have a pillow rolled up inside a rolled sleeping bag and a zippered tote with wheels for anything else.  (I never have to pack to airline's regulations because I refuse to go on a plane.)

I pack things that I can easily mix and match with other pieces of clothing that I'm bringing to save room and weight and it's better to roll your clothing to create more room.

I try to pack light but consider weather conditions and make sure I have something for everything.

Also, leaving a little room in your bag helps. Unless you're going somewhere really secluded, you can usually buy anything you might have forgotten. Plus souvenirs, of course!
