CrowdFlower Tasks and Facebook
« on: April 26, 2015, 10:50:08 pm »
Does anyone else think it is wrong for people to be forced to join Facebook in order to do tasks on CrowdFlower?  This is just another way that makes us vulnerable to our personal info being used by others who we don't know and probably shouldn't trust.  I try to limit the amount of info I give to join a site and if it is too much or it seems like a shady site I don't join, and I do check out the sites and their reviews before I join them.  I make a good bit of money on CrowdFlower so I now have to decide whether it is worth it to have a profile on Facebook.  I think there should be another way to stay on CF and not have to join FB and for them to put people in the position to make a decision like that is simply not right.  Why should we have to give up our privacy to do penny tasks :bad:  I guess if I want to keep making money on CF I have no choice at the moment but I will write CF and voice my concerns   Any thoughts?

I have a Facebook account and I haven't done a task since it as been a requirement for them to have access while there is not any personal info not already on the web,  they get access to all my friends/family.  I really have know idea what they want to do with it.

Set up a new Facebook account and don't put any information on it you don't want seen. Get a fresh gmail account for your email and use it only for that.

NO! Everybody doesn't have a Facebook account, what a ridiculous assumption :bad:

Once you join Facebook you allow their cookies to be on YOUR computer which allows access by them and others for potential hacking, which can be done by anyone.  :bad:

You can create a Facebook account with very little personal information, use a fake display name, restrict everyone from seeing it, and use it specifically for tasks.  It's a bit of a hassle, sure, but you still don't have to put all your information out there.

My MIL enters a lot of sweepstakes and has a Facebook account set up that way. Works well for her!

the reason they were forced to do this is because of people finding ways to open multiple accounts and doing the same tasks over and over and getting paid for them.

That is ridiculous, you are no more vulnerable with a Facebook account than you are with any other online service.

Facebook used to be more strict about their accounts.  I heard a story about certain entertainers that don't use their real names being allowed to have a FB account under their alias, the name that they 'go by'.
I do not want to 'spam' my family/friends that have no interest in PTC websites.

Every time you surf the internet you allow "cookies" on your computer.  In order to protect yourself from hacking, viruses, trojans, and other unsavory things, it's up to you to protect your investment by using things such as anti-virus and malware removal tools (for those "drive-by" occasions).  Cookies aren't the problem, stupid people are the problem, LOL.

Now, you can no longer remain annonomys. They get to see all of your stuff. You have to weigh if its worth it to you to continue to do their task

I agree with you, I do not think that we should be forced to join a social media site, just to be a part of  another site...
