If you didn't like one of the ingredients in a recipe, would you add your own as a substitute?
Have you ever created your own recipe from scratch?

I'm not very good at creating meals...most of the time I call my sister up when I want something new, say this is what I've got.  She's really good at it, most of the time she pops right up with something new and unusual to do with it lol

yes I do this all the time, however I always try to make the meal exactly as the recipe calls for, and then change it up a bit more for my tastes

I love creating recipes, some are duds, but alot are make agains

Usually recipes are written for a meal or dessert to come out exactly perfect and changing anything could make the whole thing a disaster unless, of course, you are very well versed on substitutions in recipes.  I don't usually change anything, but, I do use only ORGANIC ingredients so that to me is the best change.

Sure, I substitute quite a bit, especially if the recipe calls for odd ingredients.

Many times I will change a recipe, add or subtract something.  Lots of times it works out well, but there have been times when it went into the garbage and McDonalds or Pizza became our dinner!

I like collecting recipes, although I very seldom get around to making any of them.  I will add or take away from a recipe I feel I want something different.

I have seen a lot of recipes that look good, but they have mushrooms in them.  If I were to make this, I would leave out the mushrooms.

The first time I try a new recipe I usually follow it pretty much exactly.   If I make it again sometimes I'll change it.  Just depends on what it is.   As far as baking, I follow recipes exactly.   Wish I could come up with recipes on my own for cakes but that will never be.    I can do fairly well with main meals and experimenting.

I have never created a recipe from scratch, I'm afraid I'm not that inventive or creative. However I do substitute ingredients all the time. For instance, I never buy pearl onions, I will also substitute for the onions I actually have in the house, and sometimes I substitute fresh ginger for ground dried ginger. I use Greek plain yogurt instead of sour cream, olive oil instead of vegetable oil and tomato ketchup mixed with mayonnaise instead of thousand island dressing.

I try to stick to the recipe the first time I make something.
After that, I'll add a little of this or a little of that, til I'm satisfied with it.

Some things  will go by the recipes but a lot of times I don't. When it  comes to things like stews, soups, or stir fry anything goes. I have been known to add things like shredded zucchini to brownies when kids were young. They never knew any different. the brownies were moist and good and they had some veggies. In the summer when the uccini was very plentiful they would get tired of it. Heck even won first prize at the fair.  the judges didn't even know thy were in them. Anytime I could add more veggies any where in the food I did.
