Do you make your kids make their bed every day?

I was taught that you should make your bed every day, and I think it's good for my kids to learn. They tell me it is outdated.

My daughter cleans her room once a year-you practically need a shovel in order to get through two feet of clothes in order to see her floor. Her bed is a loft so I am not able to see if she has made it or not. She cleans out the inside of her car every five months. But I really don't mind because she focuses on her grades.  She has never gotten less than an 'A' since she was born and has only taken AP (college level classes) from grades nine through twelve. My son keeps his room very neat and orderly (same with  his car) but we have to keep on him constantly about his grades and studying...this does bother me. My daughter goes off to school in three months and I am sure that she will continue with great grades (knock on wood) but I wonder how she will survive a roommate with her slovenly habits.

I have a tough enough time making MYSELF make my bed every day.  My children are adults now and I'm not sure what their housekeeping is like.  It's probably none of my business, now.

Have a great day!

Making the bed every day is not a huge deal.

I disagree that it is out dated.   How can making your bed or cleaning your room/house/car whatever be outdated???  I would have to have them explain that to me.

As soon as they are older enough, yes a child should make their beds and keep their room clean.  Start as soon as possible, this grounds the kids and shows them they do not have maid srevice.

When my girls were very young I always made their beds every morning.  When they got older my rule was the bed must be made every day, and they did before they went to school.
