Any digital antenna users?
« on: May 22, 2015, 02:29:33 pm »
We gave up Directv and got an inexpensive digital antenna.  It works fairly well sometimes but it doesn't take much at all for it to quit getting a signal.  We won't mind spending more money if we can find one that works much better than this one.  Anyone have any recommendations?  Sure would appreciate it if you'd share any info. or opinions.

Wish I could help but I have the same problem.  I would also like to find a reliable substitute for cable or other expensive service.

That goes for me too. We are constantly having to adjust our antenna.

Interesting topic. I have wondered about these too to solve the "I can't believe how much cable costs" issue.

I think that we are all so used to cable and sat tv that many of us have forgotten or never knew that antenna reception was always like that.  The wind, the sun and the rain all have a tendency to ruin the picture.  My sister in law who is notoriously frugal and not an avid tv watcher, finally gave us up on the digital antenna and signed up for direct tv's cheapest package.  Wish I could help more but I think that is just the way it is.

It depends on your exact location for your antenna. I have three of them and all work very well for local channels, but I did need to have patience to find the best spot, which can vary with the channel I want to watch. I loaned one to the lady across the street from me and the hills block her from getting anything at all.

Another option, is using your high speed Internet to get some channels direct in your browser, then you can always connect your computer to your TV set with an HDMI cable. I bought a converter for my old XP computer (that didn't have HDMI) and use it every day to make my 32" HDTV work as a monitor, so it's simple to bring up some TV channels in my browser and switch to full screen. You can't tell it's not on Cable, until you realize you didn't get a bill.

Google me and I can share more outside this forum.

I use google chromecast and watch with my tablet as a remote with Netflix and hulu. I use my old pc (connected with HDMI cord) to watch my cbs membership lots of good shows, love my NCIS and The Good Wife, Blue Bloods.

Thanks yall for the input.  We use Netflix and Roku most of the time but there's a couple of shows on the local channels I'd like to be able to sit down and watch without loosing the picture every few seconds.  I'm not tech. enough to hook computer to my TV oldbuddy but may see if one of my son-in-laws or grandson's can.    Thanks again.

I use cable for the majority of televisions in the household save for one television, which is using those flat omni directional indoor antennas. It seems to be pretty decent, but I did have to play around with the best place around the house (decided to mount on a part of the window. I also chose one with a larger range despite the fact cheaper ones touted ranges I would otherwise think covers me.

We tried having one in college, but eventually got tired of adjusting it, and kept with Netflix.
