Vehicles: Auto Repair for Dummies

Picked up another non-fictional read from the library.  This one is going to teach me how to keep my 2000 Ford Winstar alive and well.  I don't really care about perfection when it comes to my ride, but it's important to me, that I drive a reliable and economical vehicle.

The book I'm currently reading is called Auto Repair for Dummies.  Obviously, this book is for beginners.

The chapter I'm most interested in is Monthly Maintenance: A Monthly Under-the-Hood Check.   

How independent are you when it's time to do vehicle maintenance?

Any specific tips or tricks you'd be willing to share?
